Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

LOL, sorry DT, lovely cross post though, as it did make me look up kittiwakes. I was thinking it must be a bloody big turnstone! By coincidence our turnstones seem to be back in the harbour, none there tonight in the wind though

I can’t think of many common sea birds much more unalike than a gannet and a turnstone and not just in appearance :-)

It's lovely to hear what birds cause excitement as random visitors in different areas. As I'm a hop skip and jump from the North east coast, kittiwakes and turnstones are pretty common, but I bet I miss lots of warblers.

It's so stormy here at the moment even the herring gulls are hunkered down.

Lovely D2 :-) I do like to see a goldfinch. There was a gang of them here for a while, I suspect they were nesting nearby and they used to swoop down on the dandelion seeds in next door's garden. Then one day there were 6 of them on the guttering below my window, including little fledgelings. They flew off before I could get my camera and I haven't seen them since.

Yes, I really thought I'd seen the last of them. This one may have been passing through from further north, of course.
