Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'd have thought you were as well-placed as anyone for them J2R. Sure I've seen them reported on the coast down your way. Not sure what one is doing here and now!

I need a trip up to Scotland as on my list would be crested tit, and golden and white-tailed eagles. I'd also like a definite goshawk, as I've never been confident on a sighting.

Flanker, take a trip to Mull some time - I saw golden and white-tailed eagles when I was there a few years ago. Not seen crested tit in this country, but I've seen them in the Alps (that also goes for various other species, which I've not seen here but have seen abroad, such as ptarmigan).

DT, good call on the lesser spotted woodpecker - never had a definitive sighting of one of those either, so that's on the list. Goshawk is another.

I think I should make it a specific target to add one or two of these this year.

Would love to get up to Mull at some point.

The more I think about this, the longer the list gets :-)

Another vote for Mull in order to see eagles. Last May I stood on the shore of Loch Na Keal below Ben More and I could see Golden Eagles to the south and White-Tailed to the north. The RSPB viewpoint on Skye above the Kylerhea ferry is another good spot for both and it's also a great place for Otters, Dolphins and Porpoises. Generally anywhere up the west coast of Scotland and out on to the islands is rich in birdlife and will deliver some great spots without too much effort and it's not too bad for running either ;-)

J2R for Ptarmigan you need a run high in the Scottish Mountains. Anywhere high in the Cairngorms or somewhere like the Grey Corries near Ben Nevis but be prepared for them to cause you heart stopping moments when they don't move until you're about to stand on them!

Crested Tits and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker are both high on my list of desired species. I've looked for Crested Tits in Abernethy Forest near Aviemore but never managed to spot them. LSW ought to be easier for me given my proximity to Sherwood Forest but I've never really made a concerted effort, too close to home! And I'm another one who would like a good view of a Goshawk, the only one I've seen was in Spain and that was fleeting.

Grass Wood near Grassington in Wharfedale was rated for lesser spot woodpecker. I noticed a couple had been reported in flankerland too recently
