Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Following on from the puzzle I shared yesterday, I had a go at setting it up in the app and managed to get as far as putting the pieces on the board but couldn't see how to proceed next. I'll share the solution while I still remember it:

Jules was right about black king to e3, but white didn't then counter with rook f3. Instead, they brought their queen to f4, resulting in the loss of both queens and the white rook. Can anyone think why white might have favoured that over attacking with the rook? (I wondered if it might have something to do with the positioning of black's rook?)

I'll share the set-up again here, so you don't have to click back to find it:

Well that’s another classic example of me posting a question and then realising that yes, I was on my way to understanding it after all. If the white rook goes for check, it gets taken by the queen which in turn gets taken by the pawn, then black rook goes to g1 for checkmate.

Having failed to see the trick in today’s daily puzzle, here’s a really tricky Checkmate in 1 for white I came across in a clip.

Bonus points for anyone who gets it!

Yes, spotted that after I posted. I can't find a move yet that doesn't allow Kh8 as an escape route
