Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Can anyone tell me about cross-country shoes or trail shoes for deep mud?

Someone needs to get on an invent retractable spikes for mixed course! Preferably with variable length spikes for different sections...

I've found that Walsh or inov8 x talon will cope with anything a cross country or fell race will throw at you. I've never had spikes and think they can be a hinderance when having to cross paths and stones or rocky sections but shoes are a personal thing and what suits one may not suit another.

These moutainbikers have hydraulic seatposts that move up or down with the press of a button on the handlebars, so sure it must be feasible ;-)
Get that idea patented Curly and go and make your fortune !

My local run4it has an old 2008 pair of mudclaw 300 in my size for £50!
They look a bit bulkier than the current model but got to be worth a try so I've ordered them and can return if no good.

Thanks all!

For comparison I searched for your current shoe runnersworld.com and the drop is 13mm.

Thanks.

The mudclaw is going to feel weird but this series of races is all up and down steep and muddy with no flat or hard bits so should be an issue really.

I used to do cross county races for my club in ordinary trail shoes and dreaded them. I got myself a pair of Inov8 Mudclaw 300's (the bright yellow ones) last year and they made a world of difference, I love them! No more sliding around on the muddy hills :-) I actually go out running in the mud for fun now not just because I have to make up the numbers :-) I bought them same size Mudclaws as my usual road shoes. I do go up half a size for all running shoes compared to 'normal' shoes though.
