Fragile Do Not Bend
A good point by TeeBee. For non-members our website has a news feed that mirrors what goes on our public-facing facebook page.

we seem to be relying more on FB too. And I agree it could be an issue for some people - in fact I'm not on any social media platform. There has been some slight debate in the club about the benefit of websites. I found our club, and was attracted to it, by the info I read on their website and i think there's still a role for it. There is another club near us that seems to have no problems attracting new members. It's not affiliated and sells itself very much on the social aspect, which is probably not a road we want to go down. And they do all their comms via FB, they don't even have a website AFAIK. |

Fwiw, our club broke away from the local athletics club 30+ years ago, as members then wanted the club to be more sociable and open to all. (We still have a great relationship with the athletics club and occasionally use their facilities!). We have a very stable membership of around 100 and a keen member who keeps the website up to date (I write a weekly blog), so accessible to all. (I think you can 'lose' info on Facebook and website available to everyone) We have three groups on group runs and insist on run backs. Membership about 50:50 men/women. New members come from parkrun, word of mouth etc and generally stay with us ('once a Peeler, always a Peeler!'). Our committee meetings are open to all (with key posts filled) ... minutes are circulated. We're England Athletics affiliated and don't subsidise any races/XC. Hope that helps?

I asked to advertise our club at a local event and was told we would have to pay. The organiser was treating us like one of the food stalls and wanting us to pay. It was not worth it. We stopped our website as it was costing too much money for the domain name. Nobody from the club wanted to look after it either so it ended up being so out of date. Social media seems to be the way to go where I am. |

Remember not everyone has social media. If that's all you have, it could also be a counter-intuitive move and restrict potential members.

We know, but if we can't up keep a website then it's tricky.
