Notes & Comments
Blyth 10k. Generally flat, a bit of wind. Set off quite quick, Dave Ford passed me in the first mile. I thought about keeping with him (he is in my pace group) but I couldn't, so went at my own pace. Was surprised to the race marked in miles not km; decided to aim for sub 7:30 pace all the way round (being less than Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile pace of 7:32 or something), though I wasn't sure what time this would get me! The race was a bit boring for the first 4 miles. I was stuck behind a tall girl running with headphones and wearing a fleece (!) and an older muscly chap, and nothing was happening. Be careful what you wish for: just when it crossed my mind that it was a bit dull, I heard some panting and three girls in club vests came past me. Right - I decided straight away to go with them (2 north shields poly, one elswick). Now it was exciting. We were passing people, someone from Tynedale shouted some encouragement, we passed the girl in the fleece but I think she had us later on. Managed a sprint finish and crossed the line a second after the NSP girl who was originally leading the pack. Hope to break 45 next time!
