I didn't expect much of this after a difficult spring where I missed about 6 weeks of training due to a bad chest infection and then only 6 weeks of base training under my belt. The aim was to go sub 50 if possible but I didn't look even once at the Garmin, only ran to feeling. Steady up the first big hill; when I found my stride I started picking off people one by one. Felt strong and in control throughout but had no idea how fast I was going. I had some inkling that it wasn't that bad when I started catching up with Nigel who was running far ahead of me (about 500m at most). When I overtook him, I realised that this was going really well. I was made up when I saw a 4 on the finish clock, when the person in front of it stepped away, I saw 47:30ish and I was in disbelief. Finished in 47:55, only 45 sec off my course PB, based on no speed training at all, only steady runs with hills in them. Wow! Tonight I fell in love with running again, this is why I do it, stunning scenery, great company and the feeling of flying along the road.
