Notes & Comments

New Balance English Half Marathon, Warrington. 295/1495 finishers. 5/26 in male 55 category. A massive PB, knocking nearly 4 mins off my previous best. A real confidence booster. Followed the 1.45 pace man round all the way. He set off much quicker than I would have done on my own (he eventually got in a minute and a half early) and I was really concerned that I wouldn't last that pace. He set off at 7.37 pace for first two miles which is virtually my 10k pace. Kept just behind most bof way and went past him in last mile. Course was a bit hillier than I expected (but it was no Dronfield) but at least it was mostly downhill to the finish, otherwise I might have struggled. Really thrilled with finishing time. Got up at 5.30 and had two bowls of porridge, which may have been a bit too much. However, it was nearly 4 hours to start time (as start was delayed 20 mins) so thought that just one bowl wouldn't have been enough. Felt I didn't need a carbo gel before start, but had half a bottle of Lucozade Sport at 8.45. Only had one gel on way round. Really good work out and wore all kit I will use in New York. Belt needs sorting - gels are too loose. Cals 1768. HR av 160, max 169. Laps A massive PB, knocking nearly 4 mins off my previous best. A real confidence booster.
