Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Notes & Comments

Market Deeping Sportive from Bourne. My first one! Andy thought it would be a good idea for me to experience lots of cyclists all riding together before next Saturday. We opted for the 50 mile option as a warm up/down for next weekend. We collected our numbers and had a quick coffee and chat to Hotlegs and most of the riders had already left by the time we got outside. In the end it was only me and Andy riding together.

Legs felt like lead to start with but had warmed up after about 5 miles. This was a lovely route from Bourne towards Stamford, Great Casterton, Ketton, Collyweston (steep hill!) stopping in Kings Cliffe at the first feed station for a loo stop and some food. Then it was on to Nassington and Yarwell. We stopped here too to see Team Turner who were manning the station. Lovely to stop and have a chat and sample Jeni's chocolate and beetroot cake and Jayne's power balls. Both were delicious!

Then it was on to Wansford and down the A47 which was horrid, the cars go so fast and are way too impatient for cyclists on the road, but it was off towards Southorpe and back to known territory and Barnack and lovely villages back to Bourne. About 7 miles from the finish the heavens opened and we had torrential driving rain in our faces, not pleasant but it wasn't cold and we just wanted to get back so kept going. It cleared up by the time we came back into Bourne.

Really really enjoyed this sportive and would do it again. Great to See Terry and Barry marshalling at the start and finish too. Finished with a coffee and plate full of very welcome cake!!
