Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

padoir noir What a great event! I would thoroughly recommend this race. For those who don't know (and that included me before tonight), Ballboley Forest Park is on the side of Shane's Hill between Larne and Ballyclare. It was better attended than I expected. I would guess about 100 or so. It was well organised and very friendly. Most runners appeared to know one another but I have to say I was made to feel very welcome with a number of people chatting to me at both the start and finish.

The course itself is...interesting. It is a typical forest trail, except that the first three quarter mile is straight up the side of a mountain. After that it's fairly undulating and a mix of earth/gravel trail and larger stone trail sections which are more difficult to run on and pose some risk of ankle injury. The last half mile is downhill on earth/gravel and is fast.

The finish is downhill and was lined with faster finishers encouraging the slower among us...like I said, very friendly.

Big thanks to Stephen and the girl from Larne AC (sorry didn't get your name) who dragged me round the first couple of miles, and Drew from East Antrim Harriers who actively paced me for the last couple of miles...without them my time would have been considerably longer.

Overall I really enjoyed this. It was a cold night for May, about 7 degrees, but with no wind, so pretty much perfect conditions for running.

This was the first in a series of four short trail races run every year by East Antrim Harriers and based on tonight I will be attending as many of the remainder as I can. I would urge everyone to do the same....go on, you know you want to.
