Go-KL Arguably my finest ever race - certainly when I was at the absolute peak (so far) of my fitness and only weeks before it all fell apart for nearly three years. I was a little tired having run a PB in a five mile race the fours days earlier, but I was light at 67kg and running superbly - aided by 130 miles a week of cycling. But there was a caveat, the pain in my left shin which had bothered me since the marathon in April was becoming a concern, I put some Noene insoles in my racing trainers to try and ease the cushioning. The quality of the field was high, I raced with the top woman runner in the area - I think I just outsprinted her in the end and I gained a best by over 6 minutes (my fastest ever mile average for a race too at 5:39), finished 29th overall and achieved a time I am yet to get a minute near to. Alas the pain in the shin was diagnosed a month later as a compartment syndrome and 18 months after that as a stress fracture too which took an operation and an inordinate length of time to recover from.
