Oscar's Everyone Day

23rd June 2024
In 2021 Oscar the Grouch proposed one day each year where "we unite as a community and EVERYONE records an activity of some sort - a dog walk, a run, a swim, a ride, ski if you want...".

Sadly we lost Oscar in March, so I'd like to dedicate Everyone Day to him. Thank you for the inspiration you gave us Oscar.

kaichandler Well organised, flat race on minor roads, almost no traffic. Hot drink and snack for a pound, changing tents, but long queues for the portaloos. ***The best teeshirt ever!!! - Nothing special to look at but one but seems to be a technical fabric I'll be running in for a long time*** Poole Runners 3:06:00 3:06:00 3:20:00 3:06:00 55.41
Marigold Plan is a controlled training run. Plan is to run the first half in 60 and then the 2nd in 57ish

MMH20 Report

As I said early my plan was to run 6:00m/m for the first half and then try and do a 57ish for the last 10 miles.

First 5 miles : 29:40 (5:56m/m)

All going to plan and my HR nicely ticking over around 5bpm below marathon effort. Running with a club-mate who was looking for around 2:00 and we were going along nicely. At this stage there were 4 runners ahead of us with the leader around a minute up the road (Poolerunner)

2nd 5 miles : 28:34 (5:43m/m)

Was still going to plan up until around 7-8 miles although we were picking up the pace a little bit. We were pulling in a couple of Vets who were up ahead ( including Mr Hargreaves) and the temptation to pull them in was slowly increasing our pace. It was around 9 miles that I realised that I was feeling very strong, had just moved into second place and estimated that the chap in 1st was around 2 min up the road. Was getting a sniff of a possible win which caused mile 10 to be a 5:27. Average for this 5 miles was around marathon effort

3rd 5 miles : 27:47 (5:34m/m)

Feeling strong and making sure I stayed below 1/2 marathon HR by a few beats I slowly started to claw in the lead runner but not that fast. By the end of this 5 miles I was still around a minute behind and started getting doubts that I was going to make it.

4th 5 miles : 27:09 (5:27m/m)

Made a real effort around 16/17 miles and knocked out a 5:21 and a 5:23 which enabled me to catch up with the leader.(This was helped by IW and Tag on their bikes giving me some big support - cheers boys). Sat behind him for around 1/2 mile to catch my breath and then at around 18/19 miles I pulled out a 50-100m which I then managed to hold on until the end. HR stayed a couple of beats below 1/2 marathon effort until the end.

Really chuffed with my first DRRL win and although I was a bit disappointed I didn't have the mental strength to not race, I don't feel I'm going to need that much recovery so it hasn't done me too much harm.

Last 13.1 miles were just under my 1/2 PB in around 72:30
