Oscar's Everyone Day

Sunday 23rd June 2024
In 2021 Oscar the Grouch proposed one day each year where "we unite as a community and EVERYONE records an activity of some sort - a dog walk, a run, a swim, a ride, ski if you want...".

Sadly we lost Oscar in March, so I'd like to dedicate Everyone Day to him. Thank you for the inspiration you gave us Oscar.

captain catastrophe Good race - went much better than I had planned or expected. My mate Dave pulled me along to beat my PB by a massive 14 minutes! Good practice for Edinburgh but still under no illusions about how tough my first marathon will be. York Knavesmire Harriers 1:44:37 1:44:37 1:44:37 60.01

Grid This was a bit of a car crash. Recovering from a heavy cold, and having done no running for two weeks prior, meant that I was not in good shape. Did Liverpool a few weeks back in 1:57, so set a conservative target of 2:25 for 11 minute miles. Overheated badly on the way up to the ring road and never recovered, and I had to walk a good proportion of the last few miles - despite these being flat. It was murder. Glad just to get round in one piece. Bournville Harriers 1:46:42 1:57:17 2:25:00 2:25:19 39.90

Karen S Last time did this was back in 2007. I didn't train properly and half walked/jogged for the last 2-3 miles. I think I've prepared properly this time, did 13 mile run at steady pace in 2:19 and am secretly targetiing for under 2:10 if I feel good on the day. Am very familiar with running the hills on this route, I used to run them many a time when I lived in Meanwood for 6 years! BTW I was actually on the winning team for the Leeds Half Marathon Corporate Challenge Relay way back in 1995 with the mixed men & women's team from PricewaterhouseCoopers. Seem to remember getting a nice sports bag as a prize (about the only thing I have won!). I must have been quite fast then! I wonder if I'll ever be that fast again.......

Brilliant, managed a PB and kept to my target pace exactly all way round. Felt very comfortable all way round probably need to start pushing myself a bit harder now.....I even passed the smurf at 10 1/2 miles! Wakefield Triathlon Club 2:11:14 2:11:14 2:15:00 2:11:14 50.47

softshoe really disappointed as thought i'd trained hard for this, my first half in a couple of years. the second long hill took me by surprise and by 7miles my legs had gone. the only good thing to come out of it was that i never actualy stopped or walked. can anyone suggest any long hills on which to train around the dn3 area Unaffiliated 1:42:24 1:48:38 1:40:00 1:48:38 58.79

Whoisdavidmagii? Last half marathon was Burn Valley last year. This is much less hilly thank god so should go quicker (in theory).
Well - Kebab & half a bottle of vino last night did the trick. Felt great all the way around; last mile a slog but by then I didn't care because the PB was in the bag. Pudsey Pacers RC 1:29:07 1:38:14 1:40:00 1:38:14 62.34
