If you haven't already tried, volteral 12 hour pain relief gel is pretty good.

Ooh, thanks, AL - I was saving analgesics as a last resort for when all the other options had been exhausted...

I just looked up local NHS MSK Podiatry self-referral options. It sounded hopeful to begin with - it covers Painful musculoskeletal foot problems in children and adults</> but then goes on to say they will not accept referrals for Adult MSK conditions that cause mild pain but is not affecting the ability to work

I guess running at least 20 miles a week would be similar to 'not affecting ability to work' ;-)

In fact, mostly, my toe pain is helped enormously by having these amazon.co.uk together with these shoeinsoles.co.uk to spread my weight more evenly across the foot, in every pair of running shoes.

Update: meeting with the specialist (physio? podiatrist? - he never introduced himself so I don't know!) went well a couple of weeks back. It helped that he's had osteo-arthritis and plays/ed sport (mostly rugby, by the sound of it) himself.

He wasn't impressed by the GP's default idea of managing it purely by pain relief , but was surprisingly positive/open-minded about the idea of surgery. I'd rather not, ideally, but will be interesting to see what he says after we've looked at the X-rays. I had both feet X-rayed on Thursday, so hopefully, seeing the specialist again within the next month or so...

Finally got an appointment with podiatrist after self referral posted on July! Will see what they suggest.

Got something to say?
