[Can't think of the dual world cup player - will be interested to see the answer]

Our first league game of the season - scheduled for tomorrow - has already been called off as the ground is unfit :(

My first guess would be West Indian and therefore presumably playing for his country at football. Brian Lara or Viv Richards were the first two guesses I had, but they're both complete guesses (the former simply because he was mates with Dwight Yorke).

Viv Richards is indeed the answer I have. He is said to have played in the 1974 World Cup Qualifiers in numerous places, including his ICC profile. His wikipedia biography casts some doubt on it, but it appears that he played for Antigua and Barbuda in a qualifying round of the CONCACAF championship, which is in turn the qualifier to get into the World Cup. Richie Richardson also played internationally for Antigua, but not in World Cup games.

I wonder if I’d heard of Viv Richards playing before. Not really sure why it was my second guess.

Wonder if the Wikipedia doubts are “if it’s not recorded on the internet it never happened” or it’s perhaps a little folklore.

Essex, Essex, Essex etc etc. A good mixture of the young, experienced and the old in the team. Early days but a great start.

Same for Zak Crawley who scored 4 and 5 against Surrey.
