-caz- Had a nice steady run up until 16 miles when I fell over someone at a water station causing me to injure my ankle. It slowed me slightly until 23 miles when I eventually surrendered to the pain and hobbled the rest of the way. Very hot day. Unaffiliated 4:14:55 4:52:36 4:15:00 4:52:36 41.54

Delia My first marathon, and what an incredible experience! The crowds were brilliant, and their support got me round more comfortably than I had expected. Admittedly, not a time that's going to set the world on fire, but I loved the day, and that counts for much more!! Unaffiliated 6:05:00 6:05:00 6:05:00 36.70

Tatws Was feeling strong again and put in more work in relation to fast short runs. Finished with a time that I was dissapointed with. Again struggled after the 19mile mark. Went out too fast and it took it's toll - fisrt start from the Blue course with the Elite atheltes but was anything but an Elite Athelte at the finish. Unaffiliated 3:42:12 3:50:20 3:50:20 52.77
Garf Just putting a quick summary here and then I'll update it as I go

Crossed the start line at about 1005 a bit later than anticipated, Started struggling at 14 miles as it was so hot and could feel a blister on my left foot. Some of the water stations had run out of water and people were starting to panic, you just cant run in that heat without water.
Managed to run to 21 miles, was fighting the pain which was everywhere, feet, legs, back was locked up and a thumping headache.
Was trying to convince myself there was only 5 miles to go and then everything went black for a split second and then reality came back and I was still running. Having seen two other runners collapsed by the side of the road I decided to give up my goal of running all the way and went into survival mode. Walked then next 4.5miles, tried running a couple of times when I felt a bit better but there was nothing there, just couldn't get going again. Last half mile I managed to run and walk and managed to run the last .2 and cross the line.

Getting the blister treated at the 1st aid station I started shivering uncontrollably and then later at home so I think I had sun stroke and that along with the dehydration probably caused the blackout. I think if it hadn't been so hot then I maybe would have made the run all the way. Ah well I'll never know now!

And the big question everyone is asking Unaffiliated 5:47:27 5:47:27 4:59:59 5:47:27 37.57

fraggle Very hot - I'm sunburned!

Found the heat very oppressive, and finished maybe 20-30 mins after I would have liked, but still pleased all the same as I ran all the way (albeit slowly!)

Saw family and friends 4 times during the race, which really cheeered me up.

Go-KL Training had gone perfectly until the day I landed from Bahrain 12 days before the marathon. I came back with a nasty sore throat which lingered until the Wednesday before the marathon when I found myself bed ridden with a heavy cold. Had my entry not been deferred from the year before I would probably not have race - but felt about 85% on the day and decided to go for it.
From the off though I knew something was not quite right - the crowds were amazing and kept me going right on pace for my planned 2:55:00 assault - but my heart rate was higher than it was for the half marathon a month earlier, and I knew that at some point I was likely to blow up.
The heat may have been a factor but to be honest I didn't really notice it, especially as I had been running in 40C at Bahrain a few days earlier.
I got cramp in my IT Band area at around 16 miles - somewhere I had never got cramp before and not since. I struggled to 20 miles trying to keep a pace and then resigned to the inevitable crippling cramp that ensured in the quads. Thoroughly miserable I jogged / walked my way to the finish, feeling very little satisfaction from being only 3 minutes outside my best. Mentally it took me quite a while to get over this one. paskha My 25th marathon - and MY FIRST London - but by a nice coincidence the 25th anniversary of the LONDON marathon. The day was wonderful - sunny & warm - which meant the crowds were just FANTASTIC - I was in the wrong pacing group - over 11 min miling - and incredibly people walking by mile 3!!?? I was in pain cos of my stretched intercostal muscles due to my fall on the Penrose Estate 2 wks before - it was an experience - but ofcourse my memory of it was that it was VERY DIFFICULT!! FLAT? Give me an undulating / hilly marathon any day!! Not sure I'd run it again - can't handle the fund-raising ..... Mounts Bay Harriers 4:28:24 4:37:38 5:00:00 5:26:58 48.61

ATOM. On reflection, quite pleased with the time. Marathon training had stalled after a car crash 4.5 weeks before the marathon however, an 18 mile run 2 weekends before the race gave me a degree of confidence that I might be able to get round the course in not too much pain. On target for 4hr marathon through 19, however from 20 onwards, felt ill in pit of stomach despite sipping water and taking on carbs. Probably affected by heat, however a good day with an amazing crowd. Pirate Ship Of Fools, Zoom Tri Club 3:53:20 4:19:23 4:19:23 4:19:23 47.48

RickD Managed to get a pb despite a few hiccups on route. Got away quite quickly and caught up with the runners world Sub 7 minute mile group, thought that it was a little congested and a little bit too slow (foolishly) so pushed on. Put in a 6:05 mile at cutty sark after averaging 6:30 up until then. Was on track for a 2:55 until 19 miles where i spent a good few minutes chucking up in the portaloos. I think that i must have drank too much lucozade sport. At 19 miles i did an 9:33 mile and it then took me another 4-5 miles to get my legs up to about 6:40 pace again. It took a last ditched effort sprinting up the mall to get in under 3 hours on the official clock. I crossed the line in 2:59:50. My vision was starting to waver at the end, don't know if this was down to dehydration or exhaustion. Stowmarket Striders RC 2:59:32 2:59:32 2:59:32 2:59:32 68.08
