_andy Very muddy, with some good bits, but some ugly. The good was winning a three-way sprint at the end, with the pace cranking up once we got back onto the pot-holed, puddle-filled road and managing to time my final sprint just right. Another positive was being first home from KRR. Set of briskly and was in second place at the first corner, but was completely relaxed and not pushing at all, so didn't over-extend. Then just drifted backwards through the field as over 20 runners passed by - but the final two went down the steps at 4.5 miles (leaving the reservoir) a bit too slow, so I went past and led through the very muddy trail for over a mile. Both pushed ahead on once we were back on tera-firma but I managed to hang in for a good finish. But the splits for the race show what a long way I am from a year ago - exactly three minutes slower this year. Hamstrings were really aching, and I felt that I couldn't lift my left leg properly, which must have had a big impact on the pace.
