Loved this race. However, there are set times you have to complete various mileages along the way - 35 mins for 5k, 70 mins for 10k, 110 mins for 10 mile mark etc etc. The cut-off time for the half marathon is 2:30. A sweeper will whoosh you up and load you onto the truck if you fall behind those times and according to the translation from Spanish to English via Google, it is called "the broom", it just wouldn't translate correctly - haha love it :D
The course is undulating and I really do have to say that the final hill shortly before the finish line, is rather "lengthy" and, er, steep. The part of the course that is run along the seafront however, is pancake flat and fantastic. Actually all of the course is excellent in my opinion (except for "that" hill).
Plenty of water stations, the marshalls were excellent. The only thing I would liked to have had however, is chip timing. Having said that, I was standing, waiting to start about two-thirds of the way back and according to my own watch, it took me just over one minute to reach that start-line.
I managed to knock 3:13 off my previous best time, going from 2:08.33 to 2:05.20, I am getting closer to that magic 2 hour mark - exciting!!
The race-numbers could be picked up from the Carrefour shopping area which is approximately three to four km away from the start area and can be collected on the Saturday from 10am to 9pm, or on the Sunday morning between 8am and 9am.
Recommend this HM, thoroughly enjoyed it, beautifully organized and great to run. The weather was around 60-61 degrees, very manageable, the really peculiar thing was that the wind had been very strong the evening before and was quite blowy on the morning of the race, but come the starting gun, it just, well it just stopped! LOL excellent timing for sure! :D
If anybody is wondering whether or not to try this race, go for it, it really is beautiful.
