Hollywoof! Had heaps of fun in the race :o)

Got myself a tad flustered before the start of the swim - how on earth did I manage to forget my goggles? Required a quick 100m dash over to the transition area to rescue them and then back to the start line again...

Started 3 people behind Shiraz which meant that we were perfectly 1 lane apart for the entire swim - very good for competitive instinct. Did get overtaken early on by one swimmer - who then immediately slowed down and got in the way of then next few turns - very odd behaviour... I'm guessing he went off fast and then tired? Also hit the slide with my hand during the last length (ouch ouch ouch) - that also reset my watch so don't know exact details of the swim time.

T1 felt sloooow though... Maybe I should hire a lady-in-waiting to help me dress?

The bike felt good (despite some horrid rain) but was definitely slower than last time... mainly because of my new tri bars I think - when I'm using them I can't see the computer so I tend to drift off the speed. Good news is that the cycle felt strong though... so all's not lost. Managed to catch Shiraz after 8 minutes cycling - but then saw her again at the far turnaround point - she was less than a minute behind me and grinning very widely.

Took full advantage of the 7 minutes dead time at the end of the cycle, then had quite a good solid T2 (all I had to do was park the bike and take my helmet off), and then zoomed into the 5km run - felt faster than last time. The sun also came out at this point which was a nice surprise after the earlier rain.

Had a strong finish - and then went back to support Shiraz who came in not far behind me - sprinting very well to the line.

I really love these races - they're only 2 miles from home and are so friendly - I really love the way the marshalls support you by name :o)

My splits today were: 8.55, 40.29, 23.07 - 1:12:31
Last time out (7 weeks ago) they were: 8.40, 40.20, 23.17 - 1:12:17
So overall quite happy (I did have fun!) - but a tad disappointed with the slower swim and (especially) cycle times. Can only hope I've improved in stamina rather than speed in the last two months...

Shiraz meanwhile... was only 2.5 minutes behind me and is very happy: 9.10, 42.01, 24.06 - 1:15:16 - the cycle result here especially is a huge improvement for her compared to her first and only tri - 5 minutes faster. Unaffiliated 1:12:31 1:12:31
