SusieG Loved this! Last minute random partner Patrick Butlin (fellrunner forum) was a good match (excellent navigation skills) and had a great time running/wading around the beautiful Wasdale area. Tough terrain and lots of bogs but luckily it stayed dry. Thought we were going to have to pull out on the 2nd day due to Patrick's ITB problems but luckily he braved it and we finished in a respectable 25th place (out of 99 finishing pairs in the Carrockfell class).

Kit- this is what I took. Worked fine. Spot on with food!

Compulsory kit:
Suitable footwear - Innovate Rocklites (excellent grip and drained well which was just as well!)
Rucksack - OMM 30l (not ideal- lack of structure to it and the fact that the straps don't go quite tight enough for me meant I had some significant sores on my back)
Sleeping bag - Beth's 1 season PHD down bag (v good) + silk liner (was a bit chilly so this was worth the weight, plus it kept muddy me away from the down bag!)
Waterproof jacket with hood and waterproof overtrousers (not pertex or other shower proof materials) - My running jacket and Beth's waterproof trousers
Long trousers / tracksters or similar (for the evening) - Running tights (my age 11-12 Karimoor ones!)
Thermal vest or similar - Black long sleeve running thermal
Warm thicker top - Chillcheater fleece (lightest of my fleece tops)
Hat & gloves - Buff (unsure whether this would have passed the kit check as a 'hat', and usual wool gloves
Torch (suitable for emergency night navigation) - Beth's tin Petzle torch
Compass & Whistle
Pen / pencil and paper (pen needs to be able to write on waterproof paper. A waterproof marker would be better than biro next time)

Compulsory team kit:
Tent with sewn in groundsheet, poles and pegs - Patrick's Laser Competition (very light and OK for 2 people just about!)
Stove & fuel, matches/lighter - Patrick's tranger + meths. (If using gas 100g canister is enough apparently)
Food for 2 days (see below)
Emergency food - Cupasoup and Nature Valley cereal bar
Plasters and bandage - Assorted fabric plasters, assorted Compeed, crepe bandage. Also took paracetamol (should have been Ibuprofen!

Food:

3 x Snickers
2 x Aldi (monk!) flapjacks (bakewell tart ones best!)
1 x Dextrose tablets (these were good and easy to eat on the go)
5 gels - SIS ones (yuk- only had 2 in total). Nicer ones would be good next time, or Cliff ShotBlox)
100g trail mix and honey roast peanuts
Maltloaf 3-4 pieces
2 x protein recovery sachets (v useful for end of day 1. Didn't have the 2nd one at the end of day 2 as wanted some non processed/non sugar foods by then!)
1 x pack of Nuun tablets (very good for keeping rehydrated and tastes nice!!)

Evening meal:
Couscous (100g)
Cupasoup (to mix in with couscous
1 packs dried pasta mix (didn't have this for 2nd dinner in the end)

Breakfast:
Bowl of muesli (leff faff than porridge and no need for extra fuel)
Powdered milk (didn't use this in the end as T&B managed to source some milk cartons at mid-camp)

Other things:
Suncream (in a tiny container/lid)
Deet (in a tiny bottle but leaked- try soaking kitchen roll in it and wrapping in clingfilm next time)
1 x 750ml water bottle (Evian!). Easier to refill from streams than a camelback. However, my bottle was cumbersome to get in and out of side pocket without assistance and so I didn't drink as much as I should have done. Try 1 or 2 500ml bottles next time, and a rucksack with better bottle holders.
1 x titanium spork (Beth's) and a disposable foil container to eat out of.
Saucepan (approx 1 litre is fine) Unaffiliated 11:25:42 23.77
