Overtook Tom Williams (Marathon Talk) on the last climb and used his encouragement of his mate Chris to get under 70 to push me home ahead of them Good to meet one of those who have virtually shared so many long runs with me.
Wet one this year and a bit blustery in places, just managed to sneak under 70 minutes but just missed out getting back to 70% WAVA.

Last race of a very happy year for me. Hopefully will manage it this year as I've missed it through illness for the last two years. Dont expect a pb or anything as I train, or should that read plod, up those hills; just going to do it to enjoy it and support the local running club. Update: Really enjoyed it, 1.21.16 on my Garmin. Those tow hills were tough but really good I managed to push through it. Now then, who were the fast fetchies who nicked all the fetchpoint markers?;)
weather not good, but race was really enjoyable. Great MC - witty and kept spirits up. Very good marshalling. course not too bad - two main hills but gradient not too bad. two laps of track to start = a bit congested and meant slow start. Good goody bag and quirky too - reflects a sense of humour attached to the race as a whole.

This is not one of those expensive races where everything is laid on a plate, a bit ramshackle and old fashioned with traditional rather than chip timing; oh and the starting arch didnt blow up and somebody nicked that tables for the water station! But, none of this mattered; excellent information throughout from the announcer with a broad dose of humour, absolutely excellent marshals throughout and you get to finish on a proper racetrack, all for 14 quid. In my book excellent value for money and the whole event is run with an enthusiasm and cheerfulness that does Stockport Harriers a lot of credit, I will certainly be back.
Oh, and they're not lying about the hills, I followed the tactics of some of the Harriers who seemed to really put in the hard yards to get the time up on theflat and downhill bits...those two hill are not steep, but they go on and on and on....

Unless you arrive fairly early I would suggest parking up in Stockport town centre and walking up. Google maps doesnt let you link to footpaths, but you should get the general idea from this map: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Great+Portwood+St%2FA560&daddr=53.4123527,-2.1434785+to:53.4105607,-2.1430278+to:Ludlow+Rd&hl=en&ll=53.41241,-2.142398&spn=0.009695,0.01929&sll=53.408304,-2.137935&sspn=0.009696,0.01929&geocode=FRoOLwMdujTf_w%3BFQACLwMdCkvf_yl1v6yzh7R7SDFQy7PJo9h5SQ%3BFQD7LgMdzUzf_ylTkkRmhrR7SDHgMKPWnvkMEw%3BFbzuLgMdoHbf_w&vpsrc=6&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=3&sz=16&via=1,2&t=h&z=16
