St Albans Review Half Marathon

A.C That was hard and hellish.

An undulating course with no shade for most of the route and the drink stations at every other mile just seemed too far apart.

Killer hill at mile 12 and like the Watford half, you run near the finish and they send you on a loop of the park.

Won't be running again in this heat I reckon it took about 10 mins off my time. Unaffiliated 1:32:39 1:34:48 1:38:00 1:42:01 57.14
Duncs Sorry if you bet on me. Far too hot to go sub 1:45. Started out OK as these splits show: 7.38 7.25 7.44 7.51 7.40 .7.55 8.19 7.53 8.24 10.25 9.08 11.01 8.29. I wonder where it went wrong? Heat and fatigue hit me at 9.5 miles and couldn't get going again after that. 100 Marathon Club, Highland Hill Runners 1:31:19 1:37:13 1:45:00 1:52:22 52.27
MarkC Well, that sucked!

Excruciating heat, little shade in parts, aggressively hilly route. Result: a personal worst by a very long way indeed, but somehow I feel it was an achievement just to finish in one piece.

I have never seen so many people in trouble in a race before, even in the final stages of a full marathon. It was a bit frightening to be honest. Hope all you Fetchites are OK! :-) Unaffiliated 1:32:59 1:48:35 1:45:00 2:08:31 45.52

Runner Martin Good well organised event - the heat 30% meant from the start decided this would not be a fast time and took it easy - but suffering from the heat now Redway Runners 1:38:46 1:44:43 1:46:00 1:54:16 55.89
sarahbob What a killer - PW (personal worst) by a long way due to extreme heat (I didn't really like the new course, either - but I don't think I can blame that). Only redeeming feature was the great marshalling - heaps of water and encouragement. Garden City Runners 1:43:33 1:43:33 1:57:23 55.46
Sir Moses Hill Sore and tired going into this race and with the heat factored in all thoughts of a decent time disappeared around the 3-mile mark. Just glad to add another one to the collection.

Thought the organisation in the park was pretty good but the new route was hilly, a few long, straight roads and an overreliance on pavements.

The spray down and freebies at the finish were much appreciated. An ice lolly has never tasted so good. Unaffiliated 1:34:51 1:34:51 1:52:36 51.49
