Mindspace An un-seasonally warm day made this already challenging course only more so. I was annoyed with myself for ending up on the start line with a half-full bladder. Not nice running 21.1K with that low-down sloshing feeling but I just put it to the back of my mind (metaphorically rather than physiologically!) and got on with it. Plenty of hill work in training really paid off. I passed more people going up than anywhere else and found the hills relatively easy to deal with. I stuck to my race plan and felt comfortable up to 10K even though I was pushing it. Struggled a fair bit on the second half. In a perfect world I would have preferred to run a negative split to break 100 minutes. That was always going to be rather optimistic on this course though and in the end I beat last year's time by nearly eight minutes !, managed a decent final 200m sprint and racked up a good PB. Found the race as a whole tough at the time but deeply satisfying. The best part of the race was a little battle with a younger lady runner right up to 12K. Saw her at the finish and she came in 3 minutes ahead of me just under 1:40...........she ran (in my opinion) the perfect race that I quite didn't. Next time....
