northernrunner little bit disapointed to be nearly 1 minute off last years time. chip time was off tho, garmin said 1h 16m 03s so 23 seconds went missing somewhere even tho it only took about 3 seconds to cross the start line. got a stitch just after 1k and didnt go till crossing the timing mat at 15k but still happy with 74th position overal Blackhill Bounders 1:14:17 1:16:12 1:16:26 76.07

AD Gone and done it, entry confirmed hope to beat last years time of 1 30 03, can I sneak under 1 30. A lots changed since I hoped to sneak in under 90 mins, and its testament to how my running has developed over the last 12 months that now I was pleased after limited training to sneak under 80 mins. 110 overall and 9th V40-- chuffed Eden Runners 1:18:32 1:18:32 1:19:57 74.79

UPDATE ....Just squeezed in under my target but i found it hard work, although managed to beat the baggage buses to South Shields. Just didn't feel fresh and legs felt heavy for some reason. Almost perfect weather, just a tad on the warm side. Finished 169th overall and 3rd V50 so happy with that. Northumberland Fell Runners 1:22:00 1:22:52 1:22:59 1:22:52 78.41

CottamRunner First ever half marathon - so always a definite PB - but was surprised just how fast I got round. Had an 'extra' bet with a bloke at work re: doubling his pledge for charity if I broke 1hr45 - so achieving 1hr 42.12 was just that little bit more special. Was well pleased - despite usual slowing at 7/8kms and then a slightly slower general pace from 14km through to 20km.

It was very warm and sunny throughout - 20 degrees - but thankfully there were showers, plenty of water points and spectators with ice pops along the route. People shouting your name at you does really spur you on too :O) Brilliant day!!!!

Position:
2837th (54,000).

DuaneDibbley I'm really pleased with my new PB for the half marathon...I've exceeded my hopes of getting under 1hr50 and if only I'd looked at my watch that bit sooner at the end I might have made it in under 1hr45.

As good as the time was I've got to say it was incredibly frustrating as I couldn't get into my own stride very often and fond myself running sideways and slipping through people going slower. The sheer volume of runners did detract somewhat from the actual running experience though I'd still love to do it again just for the amazing atmosphere and the whole day itself. Celtic_Jester Didn't get predicted time, but still happy to just get under the 2hr mark. Had forgotten just how conjested things were early on and had to weave in and out until I could get from 10 min miling to nearer 8 / 8.5 . Given I never managed 1.45 when I was younger I've been over ambitious in predicting that time as a 40+ . Cormorant It was hot wasn't it? (At one point around Mile 7 we had to actually stop running and move to the verge to let through an ambulance with its siren blaring, so I hope nobody came fatally unstuck.) The crowds were great but finding out the highest point on the course was around 5 miles was all that got me up that long rise in South Shields at 11 miles. I'm content enough with this time - the sibling rivalry was settled the right way round - and I had a good day. This was my last guaranteed place. Will I be in the ballot again next year? Probably. Mick the slug Love the busy-ness of it all. This is my 11th running of it, 17th HM in total. Did a decent time, just outside PB for the event which wasn't bad given the heat. What really chuffed me was that I felt really comfortable the whole way. Kicked on at 11 miles and I don't think anyone passed me during the last 2 miles.

Gogsy! My first GNR & what an atmosphere! Neither the heat nor the hills bothered me in the slightest, but I did find it difficult trying to keep a steady pace once I reached the stragglers from the Orange starting group - I was White - whilst also avoiding the multitude of bottles on the road. Even going downhill, my toes were banging against the front of my running shoes as I braked to avoid inexperienced or unprepared runners. That said, they were all wearing charity vests & had more of a right to be there than I did! If I did enter again, I would probably lie about an expected finishing time to ensure I started closer to the front. JogScotland Rosemount 1:54:02 1:57:29 2:15:00 2:02:33 53.96

Screeners Running on a charity place so not running for a PB at all (good job) as in terms of running time, one of my worst ever 1/2 marathon times. It was hot and tough out there - the next person who tells me the GNR is flat will get a punch in the eyes - it is gradual climbing the whole way. Very hot, passed a lot of people being helped by paramedics by side of road and saw three emergency ambulances. Hope they are all okay. I made a conscious decision at about the 9 mile mark that I wanted to finish the race by running across the line, not being carried away on a stretcher, so I just slowed right down, walked a bit and just soaked up the atmosphere. I wanted to run this race just to say I did it and I have done it, but I doubt I will do it again. Too big, too crowded, too much waiting around. I was out of the house for 8 hours in total yet was only running for 2 and a bit of those hours. And I only live 9 miles away from the start. But it is an event that you probably have to do at least once just to experience the bizarre surrealness of it all! Elswick Harriers 2:06:01 2:19:07 2:19:07 47.36

breezey unbelievably hot weather.got a touch of heatstroke, but luckily did not pull a leg muscle,as is so often the case.a good run ,with a good time for me ,given the crowds and the hot weather conditions.probably the hottest run ever.although 2005 or 2006 were also extreemly hot later on in the day. Vicky Wow, loved this. I never knew muscles could hurt so bad the day after a race. My time included a toilet break so minus this was 2hours 45 so happy with this considering the weather and the hills. Good stuff. Very happy. Unaffiliated 2:50:54 2:50:54 2:40:00 2:50:54 38.09

Wendolene Wobbler Gone completely mad! Always wanted to do it by the time I was 50 (November this year). Barring injury I will get round even if the CFS is bad and I have to crawl it!!!
