Ogden Runner Was running well with good mile splits (including 10k and Half) and on for my predicted sub4 until knee packed in at mile 17. Limped in for the last 9 miles for a painful 4.30 finish. How did I get a running vest suntan with driving rain, hailstones and vicious headwinds?
Excellent frequent water stations and well staffed - thank you! But the finish line was a disappointment and very poorly organised, especially for family/friends spectating. Poor distribution of medals/goody bags/t-shirts. I think the organisers should take an example from the Dublin Marathon which I'm tempted to choose again for my next Marathon. Tim of Fife EDINBURGH FULL MARATHON - 6,967 OF 9,660 FINISHERS

On Saturday night, after an awful night’s sleep (neck killing me), I decided to tackle the Edinburgh Marathon. It was quite literally an ‘on the spot’ decision. I felt totally rubbish anyway, so reasoned that I had nothing much to lose – I couldn’t feel much more crap. My finishing time looks a touch shocking on paper. However, I’m actually very, very proud even to have got round. I fell last weekend and 'turned' my right ankle. It was strapped up Saturday evening and I was guzzling Ibuprofen like it was going out of fashion. Indeed, even putting any pressure at all on my foot was pretty painful up until about Thursday. So, on race day, I really had to ‘nursemaid’ the foot from the start to the finish. That, coupled with some truly horrendous weather (rain showers, hail and a semi-gale), made for a tough, tough day. But I thankfully had just enough in the tank to crawl to the finish. Paul W Weight 10st 1 1/2 day before race. What a great day. Wasn't completely confident about it but thought I had a good chance. The early part of the race had some downhill bits so I was able to get ahead of the clock a bit. Had to keepslowing myself down When I got to half way I felt a bit more tired than I hoped and began to wonder if I could keep it up. But then I just got stronger to the extent that at 18 miles I wondered if I should really push it and see how fast I could go, but I talked myself out of that by telling myself that there was still 8 miles to go. But I really did feel strong. I overtook hundreds of people in the second half of the race and I'm sure that if it hadn't been for a really strong headwind and occasional rain and even hail, that I would have been nearer to 3.50 than 3.55. Never fely so strong in a marathon. Usually I start to fall apart around 20 miles but this time I just kept it going. I had a brief dizzy spell at about 23 miles but told myself to ignore it and carried on. I had 3 lots of Red Bull shots from about 14 miles from supporters club (had a slow mile at 14 because had to go back to get my drink from Sue). Drank at every station but didn't walk a step, not even to stop for drinks. Had kept well hydrated in the week before and did pretty well at carbo loading. Had 4 slices of toast and honey at 7.15 for a 10am start. It all went well and I was thrilled wi the time. Cals 3075. HR av 148, max 166. Laps 8.23, 8.46, 8.43, 8.49, 8.57, 9.03, 9.00, 8.51, 8.56, 8.59, 8.51, 8.59, 8.59, 9.10, 8.56, 8.52, 8.54, 8.52, 8.52, 8.54, 8.53, 9.02, 9.02, 9.17, 8.51, 9.04. Garmin had distance as 26.42 miles.

taulpaul Very pleased to finish in under 4 hours. Not really expecting that due to injury and lack of training. Good race if a little crazy at the finish. Took an age to exit and bus it back to Edinburgh. Not the most scenic race but at least very flat. Wind and rain made the final 6 miles very tough going.

Hamster1207 Felt like I did the 1st half easy but after analysing my Garmin today I went too quick and blew about 19 miles. Wind coming back was horrible and I really felt for the spectators during those hail showers. Last bit was good with the spectators crowding onto the course - felt like a stage in the Tour de France. But the finish itself was rubbish and the busses were a joke - 1.5 mile walk uphill to get there then you sit on the bus as it tries to get back through all the traffic. Didn't help that I was sick on the bus - 3 cheers for the plastic goodie bag ! TnoP As I was running with a knee injury and had hardly trained for 3 weeks, pleasantly surprised with the time. The wind was absolutely brutal - it was tough to stand up never mind run for the last 8 miles as we ran right into the teeth of it. Overall, then, it was a decent effort and, after 3 Marathons in 9 weeks, I'm going to recover for a while and then see what's next..... Darwen Dashers RC 5:09:29 5:15:45 5:00:00 5:15:45 42.78

kevin scott by eck that was windy in the last 5 miles ,pace really slowed down ,weather one minute perfect the next horrible ,,must say last years finish was much better finishing in the stadium ,,and medal and tee shirt better last as well,,,but saying all that enjoyed it and can not complain with a small personal best,,,

Fitz Struggled with ITBS since the beginning of May but got through with the help of physio, foam roller, stretches and pre-emptive painkillers.

Nice course, would hate to have to run it in the opposite direction. Weather: four seasons in one day - pissing rain, bright sunshine, hailstones, strong wind.

The organisation at the end - long walk from finish to goody-pick-up and bag retrieval, inept bag retrieval crew - was, as they say in SweatySockLand... GASH. FERC 3:51:40 3:57:15 4:00:00 4:05:43 52.69

Dickie York Another trip North of the Boarder.
Good fast course, set my pb here in 2009, see if the heat is a bit kinder this time.

Finished in 3.04.20, finished 218th.
The morning started rather windy and rainy, fortunately by race time the worst of the weather had passed over.
Started on London Street in Edinburgh, rain just before the start, then cleared up.
Good fast start mostly down hill for the first couple of miles, going through Holyrood Park under the shadow of Arthur's Seat, then out towards Leith and on towards Portabello Promenade next to the Forth River. Out through Musselburgh and on towards the turnaround point at Gosford House just past Longniddry.
The turnaround point at 17.5 miles then put us straight into a headwind all the way to the finish, at Musselburgh.
Felt good all the way to the turn point, going at a sub 3 pace, but the wind really played a big part in the last 8-9 miles with my pace slowing off in the wind. This made the last miles feel rather hard.
A few showers while on the course also helped to cool things down after the last couple of years which have been very hot.
Quite happy about my time after a disapointing run an the London Marathon last month.
