Too bloody hot
1st ever Marathon, nervous/excited. Due to congestion and heat knew it wasn't going to be sub 4:15. Self preservation kicked in at 22m to 24m with walk/jog then managed to trot the last couple of miles.
Great atmosphere all along the way with a few shouts in the last mile.Superb and well organised event
Slow, busy, first few miles.
Apologies to those who bet on me, too hot and congested. Fantastic support from the crowd.
Sorry to all that bet on me. Hectic day in London saturday, lack of sleep at hotel and hot weather got to me. Very disappointed with time but proud to be part of a fantastic event surrounded by fantastic people!- roll on next year!.
paul the builder
My first London, really quite excited. #33101.
Oh, that was a shocker. Turns out I wasn't in 2:59 shape after all.
Warm day. Felt goood up to 17 miles but then struggled until the embankment. just no energy. 2:20 at half way
In one word - HOT
Very hot race. Started well, but after 20 miles, I struggled!
Hoping for a club place now, if not baggage handling again, also most as much fun. - Baggage it is!

I may not be able to run due to foot surgery. However, I will do the London marathon even if I have to walk it. I could be some time!!!
Was going quite well for 16 mile and on for 3.30ish but then the heat got to me and I couldn't manage to cool down and started to fell bit light-headed. Slowed down significantly and had to walk a bit to get myself together but finished ok. Not too bad given my injury woes after tha last few years.

Application Form received by post on Saturday 3 July 2010.
Went pretty much to plan over the first half, but then really struggled with the heat...
Running injured - later found out it was a stress fracture
Hills of Death (HOD)
Ok till about 16 miles then fell to bits heat, lack of long run training and felt a bit shit.
Not get this right at all = lessons learned
3rd Marathon, but my first at London. Qualified via the GFA system
Unfortunately missed 3 months of prep due to injury, so my target of sub 3 is shot, but I'll still hope to be completing the race for charity. Decided not to defer as planned, but target is out, so please don't bet on me! *Update - Missed my PB by 71 seconds, but not gutted as my base training was non existent over the winter through injury. I'm satisfied, but sub 3 is the target next time
Satrted off a little too fast looking back at it now
but felt goog and was more than 9mins up overall
on pace after 12 mile,
The heat took its toll around 14 mile and the pace
dropped off to just over 7 min miles until 17,
then felt very drained of energy. Managed to keep the pace under 8 min miles until 22 and the rest was just making to the end. Was pleased to hold the pace at
around 8.20 until the finsh line and with the buffer
I created over the first half was able to cross the
line in the target time I trained for
Injury plagued build up and the heat meant my Gold and Silver goals were just not gonna happen, but delighted that I got my Bronze goal of beating my best. Really enjoyable event and the crowds are were just quality.
Not a good at the office - picked up injury at 8 miles and by 10 miles my race was done.
No official time yet due to chip malfunction.
Sorry to those that betted on me. All my training went well, but I had problems on the day with crowds, temperature, calf cramps and a killer stitch at the end. I will learn from the experience and aim to do metter in three weeks time at Halstead.
brilliant event, cant quite believe how good the support was, like being an FA Cup goal scorer with every stride. Water every mile, I could get used to that.
Bloody hot so very delighted to hit goal time.
Sorry to everyone who bet on me
Ah well after 4 years of trying I am eventually successful. Bring it on.
Brilliant! So worth the five year wait to run. I had none of the reported problems with race bottlenecks, and minimal congestion after mile 3. I started on the blue start way at the back, and still only took 6 minutes to cross. I missed my husband at a few of the points we'd agreed because the crowds were so deep. Beat my PB by 32 minutes, and a new half marathon PB as well - 2:03:25. I'm so sad that I may have to wait another 10 years to be able to run again!
Got through half way in 85 which was on target but then lost it mentally at 14 knowing I would struggle to maintain it for another 13. Lost my way a bit and in the end was happy to come in under 3 hours. Not my best run.
New PB and in the Sub 3hr Club now
Prof Disco Dean
It's all on the day and this certainly was not mine, at 1.28 halfway I didn't really feel my legs had it in me and then i got a stitch and nearly gave up at 16 but carried on some how? Dont think I was the only one that found it tough going in the heat
With quite a few people collapsing and being sick I was glad to finish in one piece :$
Just about sorted. Qualified on Good for Age, sent the form off and had it confirmed over the phone that all's in order so looking good. Really exited - will be a bit different from Fleetwood marathon, I suspect...
Learning all the time! 7 mins qicker than last year. Roll on 2012!
Flat Out Fi
My first ever Marathon! Was really pleased to have done 3 hours 18 mins and 44 secs! The last 4 miles were tough but I told myself to keep running!! Legs ache a lot now though!! Ive had a fantastic day!! Great support from family and friends and all the Striders have done amazing times!
2,614 overall, 259th female, 186th in my age group!
Started bit too fast as conditions good, then the sun came out and started to suffer!
Will have to do another one now to break the 4 hour mark.
Tough day in the heat not that the heat was the problem, knee & calf cramp scuppered a PB from18m, from 22m the PB was gone so enjoyed the last 4m and jogged home in 3.03 and another GFA. To be honest i think my time reflects where my training was, not enough volume due to the knee, Fair result.
Line drawn under it and we move on. Always another day.
I'm by far the fittest I've ever been. I've had a somewhat unconventional taper, but I will be resting very actively for the next 7 days. I know I can do it.
DNF - ab cramps (again)
I always said never! but got my Good for Age place. Falls in middle of school holidays so will go to expo early in the week to register and then and stay in London on Saturday night
Hot and hard - stitch then calf cramps
Disastrous. Really disappointed
First marathon (Edin Moonwalk doesn't really count, just added for the points!). Aiming to get round and think sub-5 highly unlikely.
GFA entry. Race Number 29985.
Absolutely amazing. Was glad to get to the finish after what has been a horrible start to my year. Loved every minute of it! Not the fastest time ever but finally I have done the London!!!
Awesome! Loved it to 23, hard in conditions. Still loved it
Garmin says 5.09 but what the hell this is the official time.
First time I've done a marathon and the atmosphere was incredible. Couldn't deal with the heat so any plan went out the window. But I loved every single minute of it. Fetchpoint was incredible.
Sorry to all who bet on me - had an absolute nightmare of a race. On target to 8 miles and then my ongoing heel problem kicked in with avengence. v bad apin made me feel nauesaous. I slowed to mile 10 and almost dropped out at 10 miles but decided to run/walk/hobble to the finish - 16 miles is a long way in the heat whilst hobbling. A personal worst bya long margin but I finished. Was actually surprised my time was not slower given how much walking I did.
Definitely a pb of 16 mins of my last marathon so happy This race was a tale of two halves for me. The first half was quick and ran almost all of it but the second half was quite slow, it was hot, and really slowed me down, my blisters feet were so bad I could hardly run on it so I powered walk most of the half and really tried my best to run. All in all, I always feel on a high when I do this local race of mine . I saw my members of my church, my family giving my hugs by mile 6 and Samuel little face was so confused as to ask where is mummy going (he will soon learn that his mummy is a nutter saw lots of neighbours from my flat, screaming and waving at me the little children's high-five just makes my heart melt, they are so lovely. Approaching 13/22 mile is just something to savour, I love it so much, I was waving my fetch top like a crazy woman possessed so that they can see me and when they did, the biggest cheer ever, I wish they can all run the race with me lol. Even though my feet was killing me I was happy to take all the atmosphere in. I just wish I can get in the ballot for next year. Bring on next year . There is so much to say About this special race. Thanks for reading
Race prediction went out of the window when I saw the weather forecast but I still thought 4:30 was possible until severe calf cramp at 18 miles meant a long run/walk to the finish - still a fab day with lots of brilliant Stow Strider performances from the 2 coachloads of runners & supporters that went down to London.
Many thanks for the super Fetchpoint support
My First Marathon!
Virgin London Marathon. Unforgettable day. Fantastic PB - it was soooo hot! Crowds were out of this world - an unbelievably proud day for me - ran every step of the way!!! That was the best run I've ever been on!!!
Running for charity the week after Brighton so taking it steady
Update: warm again, run walking from 14 miles but made it in under 5 hours for both so quite pleased.
Awesome day, not too bothered about not getting pb, it was just too hot for me so pleased to have ran the whole course without requiring medical assistance
Good first half - hellishly hot in second - pace fell away but finised ran all te way and didn't collapse which given the state of the recovery area was some achieveen!!
wilted towards the end...still managed to sneak under 4.00 hours though
fine until 20m.left hip hurting after fall 3 weeks ago, this turned into cramp in left hamstring.had to walk -run last 6m.too hot and very congested all the way, moreso than previous years.
Too poorly to run properly Ran the first hour then went down to run-walk with breaks every 10-15 minutes. Disappointing run but great event.
Oh dear. Shocking. It went horribly wrong. Gippy tummy. Very hot. I now am like a shivery lobster due to the sun. That counts as a personal worst! Even the Garmin was disgusted and went onto auto pause at times.

running my first marathon and bricking it !
Fantastic Day......Atmosphere second to none....Left leg hamsting held me back so although time not the best it held and I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GFA, not good, just old! Eleventh Marathon. Doing my damnedest to get under 4hrs just one last time!
What a bummer! Thought 5 hrs gfa time for 2012 was a gimmee, then calf conked out at 9 miles. Walked next 17 and clocked 6.07.02 just behind the two-man bus that overtook me on the line! Now I've got just three months to qualify and Shakespeare and Edinburgh are full. Left with Cork or Wales! Help!!!
If things go well on the day, may just squeeze a PB. Would REALLY like a sub-3
Didn't go well. Manages 3hr pace to half way, but it felt fast. Fell apart in 2nd half, struggled with heat. 40 secs slower than my pb. But GFA time for next year...
Sorry to those who bet on me. Too hot a day, and suffered in the second half.
more than happy with time, didnt notice heat just lack of training, first time at london very impressed by organisation and crowds, hope to be back next year, faster and fitter.
Hard work today, struggled in the heat, bad cramping in last 2 miles cost me sub 3.10.
Can't wait for this race!!! though I think i will be super slow...
Didn't go to plan. Was aiming for sub 2.55 but I blew in the later stages again.
Bloody Hell that hurt! Legs gave up at 18 and then gradually came back to life towards the end. Still a great experience!
All went tits up after 14. Still it was alright
didn't manage sub 5 hours, mainly dues to back injury which stopped training for 2 weeks resurfacing at around 18 miles.
but happy with time especially with hot weather
went off too fast - suffered down the embankment
Eventually got in after six years. Would like to finish in 4 hours. Fantastic day - felt my energy sapping at 18 - 20 mile but the crowds kept you going. Pleased with the outcome though. Loved it.
30/09/2010 confirmation I have my own place in the London Marathon!!!! Yay.... 1st time trying too.
Loved every minute!
struggled & faded after going through half way in 1.43 but dug deep in the final 2 miles to get under 3.45 & become the Guinness World Record holder for fastest marathon run dressed as a lifeguard A grand day out.
First time mara= getting round time in one piece! Slowed down by the heat, but got there in the end!
2nd time at London, amazing crowds but disappointing time
Will try my best for a sub 3 hour finish.
I am gonna go for it. Word of caution, training went well untilk 6th March when injury reared its ugly head and ive had effectively a 6 week taper with minimal running. Its a logshot but possible, so bet on me knowing that there is risk attached.
DNF 'crashed' out at 22 miles :0(
official tme but garmin said 4 52 26 for 26.47m !!!!
First half fast second Sloooooow
Good for age place.
Will be trying to beat the 3hr demon at London, gone sub 3 5 times, just can't seem to do it here, may be this time!
Wheels fell of at 10 miles and took my legs with them!
Bad nights sleep before and unsettled week, just didn't happen on the day )-;
Calf ache, hot, just didn't happen today legs felt tired the whole way
Very hot blew up around 11 mile ankle and chest killing but got round
Quads were shot by 5 miles
hope fully in pb shape , the mileage is done , injury free bring it on
hmmmmm, 4.17 in Edinburg 2010, bloody hot then, maybe, maybe
fecking hot again, blew up at 20, trotted home to make sure it was a pb
Got in on a club place, first marathon really looking forward to this. All the training has gone as planned, feeling good and strong. 3:15 is acheivable, but would be nice to get sub 3:10 for the good for age time. Good luck everyone! Hit the wall hard and struggled the last 10k, heat didnt help either. cant complain though first marathon. Gives me plenty to build on.
Cramp ruined it all ..... bloody weather.
Hot and hard
Awful race. Cramp from mile 18 so run/walk to the finish.
Tough day out there for me, Cramp at 18.5 so had to run/walk from 20.
The crowds were gret but were all over course in places making it very narrow. Even the blue line disapeared under the crowds in place on docklands. Had to shove one plonker back into the crowd as he walked out backwards into the runners to take a picture of his friends who were spectating.
The FETCH supporters were great as usual.
Tough race due to warm conditions and injured knee/nerve from 16 miles on. By changing gait and stride managed to finish in a Good for Age time which was my aim. If not for my injury it could have been a bit faster ...maybe ?
Deferred entry from 2010.
All went wrong at 20 miles
Injury in March combined with yet another hot race probably ruined my chances. Went for goal pace early on and was feeling good until 15 miles, then struggled quite a bit. Pace slowed mile by mile and was slower by 45sec/mile in last 2-3 miles. Tried so hard to get even 1 second under PB, but in the end I was happy to make it to the end. Gave it everything I had, but that wasn't enough. Lessons learned for next time. Interesting to have been to such a dark place during the race. Proud to have kept going and not walked.
Ok here's a brief initial report of my VLM today. Started with the great 2.45 pacer guy on fgfa start. We lost a bit of time in traffic in the first mile but had made it up by mile 3 and were ticking over nicely at 6.15 pace. Felt very comfortable banging out 19.30 5ks and passed halfway at 1.22.32. Still felt good up to about 22m which was amazing (usually wheels come off around 18m!). Hung onto the pacer for a couple more miles then fom 24 m he just started slipping away. Just couldn't rally myself as legs were cramping and felt like I was just hanging on. The dream of sub 2.45 was slipping through my aching calves. Rounded into the mall as 2.45 appeared on the clock and I managed a sort of sprint finish to at least get a time with 2.45 in it. Ended up with 2.45.54 and a10 min PB. Close but no cigar although pretty pleased with my effort.
ran fine till 21 miles then died on my arse !!. very hot out there, bit dissapointed ,but looking back seems most people struggled n those conditions
very hot, watch said 4.55 but official time was 4.59 - not sure if this was due to the time in the tunnel area when the garmin lost reception? feeling really sore after it.
Foot just lasted 9 miles.....biggest challenge of my life to finish - a real struggle

Club place after I failed in the ballot, training hard, feeling good (as of 31st January 2011).
Crashed and burned horribly today, just too damned hot and crowded. Everything was going well until 17 miles when the wheels came off.
Felt like dropping out loads of times during miles 22 to 25 but pig headedness got me through to the end, albeit over 16 minutes behind my target. At least I managed to lower my pb by 5 minutes and run in just ahead of Dwight Yorke so got about 30 seconds of tv coverage as well!
Now aiming for 3.45, training has gone well, last 20miles in 2.48.59
What a fantastic day, weather was perfect, bit to hot perhaps got a bit burned across my shoulders. The day from start to finish was just amazing, I'll never forget it for as long as I live, people on the route were great cheering you on when your legs were just giving up. I just couldn't have had a better 50th birthday, Mum. Dad, Gina & Nick, Sam & Vicky were all there to cheer me on, it just an amazing day, a I'll never forget. I nearly broke down when I phoned to tell Tracie "I've done it" emotions are all over the place after you cross the line, just can't describe it.
still ijured and blew to bits fom 9m, cant put my finger on why
Hit the wall big style !!
Must try harder next time. Even if hot. Even if Garmin freezes on me.
Garden City Rick
DNF. I sprained my ankle 2 weeks before. I was strapped up for a week. Then some easy training runs seemed OK so I decided to go ahead. Even in the first 10k I realised that it was harder than it should be. I'd decided it was not worth it and pulled out at about 13 miles.
Entered but at the moment clashes with Chinese GP which I am attending - let's hope that gets cancelled!
Didn't feel right from 10m so a hard slog to the end, but as always a great day
Target for 80% WAVA
Could this be my day to go 'good for age'? Who knows?
note afterwards - not my day..
Garmin Time = 4:48:33 (stopped watch for loo stops but not fetch point or when i saw my hubbie in the crowd)
Official Chip Time = 4:53:19
Deferred from last year's ballot due to broken ankle. Hoping ankle doesn't cause any problems with training.
Felt good until 14 miles, dug in for next couple but then resorted to run/walk. Really pleased with this though considering the amount of time I've had to train.
Feet bit blistered but really enjoyed this.
hot , hot, hot
Went for a fast time ran as planed until 16 miles then legs started to go and by 22 miles i was just trying to finish, very dissapointing outcome to 3 months hard training but it has given me a better base to work from for the summer.
May look to do another towards end of year.
a fantastic result after just recovering from the flu 7 days earlier
Very Hot. Ran/Walked from 17miles.
Nightmare of a race. I owe it one now!
No possibility of getting anywhere near my predicted time in this. More of a 26.2 mile scrum than a marathon.
Had hoped for sub-3 hours before swine flu struck a few months back - sub 3:15 is more realistic now. Managed sub-3:15 without too much drama - was on for about 3:05 right up until mile 22, but then I started to wilt in the heat. Hey-ho, at least I renewed my GFA.
Looking forward to my first London Marathon, will be 43 on Race Day!!
tick follows tock
hoping to get round in under 2:45 and sneak a p.b also fingres crossed vlm 277. Post race to hot lost 4 mins in second half but still managed to fight in the last 4 miles to set a new pb so very happy
Last month of training is going to be critical after doing 2.12.20 at Hull 20 miler today. Anything can happen and probably will!*** well anything did happen, i.e., bronchitis and antibiotics and heyfever due to early rapeseed flowering 2 weeks b4. How inconsiderate. Jibbed at 15 miles, totally buggered. At least didn't need help and got back to finish fine and enjoyed family w/e away. Guess sometimes things don' happen the way you planned them:-)
Very hot day started in pen 6 so no chance of doing predicted time, too congested.
My apparent lack of ambition was spotted by club mates. Time nearer to what I am capable of now Cant PB Wont PB My result was due to not implementing plan B at the off. Too hot
Running with a friend, hoping to get a GFA time for her...sub 3.50.
Was very warm, but we kept going...great support and an amazing atmosphere...Fetchpoint Rocks!
Phew just crept in sub 4hrs!
EDIT: Sorry guys, I was utterly pants on the day!
Hoping for something around the 4 hour mark.....
Foot injury reoccured at mile 10 was very much a walk/jog/run race and will be applying for 2012
Went for London 2012 qualification, however the heat broke me! Cramp at mile 19 and jogged/walked the last 7 miles, still beat a lot of people though
Hot, and last 2 miles a real struggle. But crowd support was amazing.
kept going upto 16 miles at just under 4 hr pace. started walking and my knees were hurting like hell. jogged a little but my calf muscle kept on pulling. got to 25 miles ,threw away the 2 drinks bottles that i had. managed to run the rest of the way. 600m to go i sped up. passed loads of people. 400m to go sped up a bit more. turned into the home straight and almost managed a sprint. saw someone coming up on my left and gave it even more . about 40m to go and i started running out of steam.
Hmm.....not sure if calf is OK right now.....
Extremely hot day and upset stomach from mile 23 onwards. ITB injury, very bad from mile 10 onwards..
Warm day, but great result for first marathon!!
Hurt like hell, but worht it!
was on for a 3 1/2 hour marathon then it went pair shaped after 15 miles when i got serious cramp, this was bloody hot 26 degrees.
It was hot, and started to get painful around mile19. I persevered and kept telling myself to just keep running and got there in the end. I'm very pleased I managed to hang on for a sub 4 finish.
Too blinking hot!
Almost 5 mins off pace at halfway - 1.54.XX - Struggled getting through the crowds, tried to stay patient. Slowed at 23 - few walking breaks through last couple of drinks stations - ran last 1.5 miles.
Hotter than I would have liked - approx 20c max - took on a lot of water - almost every station - pouring half over my head.
Took gels at 6, 11, 16 and 20 - maybe could have taken 1 or 2 more?
6:30 (wrong place)
6:06 = 1:00:15
6:42 = 2:03:36
Really pleasing performance at the VLM.A personal best and I felt pretty good all the way round.Felt really good at the 22 mile mark and finished strongly.
Really struggled in the heat and through lack of training! Crashed and burned in the last 8-10 miles. Halfway at 1 hour 45mins. Got bit of sunburn when I got home too, still managed sub 4 hour though.
Tooo hot, gutted I missed Good for age by 1 min, should nt have made that loo stop!
Slow from 18 miles on as hurt leg, also very warm. Nasty blister on right heel but a PB and made it to the bus home on time- YEY!
It was hot and I suffered for the last 6 miles!
suffered in heat and disappointed with time - but others suffered like me, so at least in good company.
HOT HOT HOT
Brilliant run fantastic atmosphere brilliant
Brilliant event, will be back. Time outside what I wanted but hay, thats 4 sub 3's on the bounce so can't be too downhearted and I ain't getting any younger. 2nd fastest Marathon to date, struggled majorly with the heat after halfway but all in a great day. Topped it off with a trip to the Emirates for the Gunners v Liverpool game.
Over half an hour outside PB but pleased with the time as it's my first London marathon and my 7th mara/ultra in 2011 (4 months) and my 4th in 4 weeks.
Best marathon so far crowd are amazing
Devil cramps....massae at 20 miles!
Rubbish - too hot
Rubbish! Disappointing! Too hot!
see training log
Had a terrible lead up time with a very bad achillies, had to do a lot of bike training instead of running to keep up my endurance.
took more than 4 minutes off my marathon PB, so not that bad on race day
Chest infection shot me down during taper period!
Very pleased to get under my target and a new pb!!!!
Ruptured foot muscle, cramp and hottest London Marathon ever. Rubbish!
cramped at 20, didnt feel strong despite good build up
Had covered 430 miles plus of training since January. And based on solid results at Trimpell and East Hull i was looking for 3.30.
On looking back my expectations were too high. 1st ever road Marathon, 1st time VLM, my inexperience of this event, particularly the sheer No of people running it and my lack of knowledge in getting a good start position. Started in Pen 3, should have pushed in much nearer the front of the start.
I won't be back for this one, but I am still looking for a good Marathon time in an Autumn Marathon
Not what i expected. Didn't go to plan but hey i finished. Loads of people, start was stop & go, weather was hot.
One HELL of a race & day
First Time so happy just to get round. The heat was a bit of a killer!! Thouroughly enjoyable
suffered badly with tree pollen allergy
Ay up me duck
Qualified for a 2012 GFA place by 10 seconds !! My first Sub 3.15 London
Busy first 3 miles - fine up until 20 miles - horrible last 3
Much faster than I predicted went through half way at 1h 31m and felt I could have done sub 3h if it hadnt got so hot Cracking time for me though and a pb.
Left calf pulled before race - easy pace.
First marathon that went disaterous when i got to 18-20 m iles through fault of my own, dident train right and only ever run to 15 miles. I took it on short notice but it was in memory of a mates brother who died of luekemia at the age of 23 so couldent say no. I am now with benfleet running club and running much better with less weight on me and training hoiw you are supposed to for a marathon with the help of a very helpful marathon coach (karl cadman) and club members to beat my time
