Too Much Water
pacing Howler, very good splits in the 9:45-10 min range
a big race for me is over 100 people, so was a bit of a fish out of water with this one. dutifully lined up at the start near the marker for my prospective finish time only to find that i was blocked in by at least 200 people who had been somewhat more optimistic. consequently only managed 6:10's for the first couple of miles as i picked my way through the mess, then settled into 5:50's through to 10miles. think this course might be quite good for me as it has lots of gentle rises and falls, so the rsi pain holds off for a bit compared with dead flat stuff.
anyway, early season road race is done to ensure the aerobic fitness is there, and can now get back to the dark side.
Had a terrible race my back went after 5 miles, then right leg, hobbled home the last 3 miles.Cant wait till my next half marathon to put that race behind me.
1:21:22 by my watch - gun time about 1:21:50, I think. It was all a bit chaotic with the queue for the bags at the start and was still peeing behind the baggage tent when the hooter went off. I managed to hop on to the start just before the start line and got off to a good pace for the first three miles and felt very good so pushed the pace on for a few miles. Started to tire about mile 8, I realised I was nowhere near a PB so eased off a bit. Quite pleased with time considering I'd got back off a 12 hour flight last night - by no means an all-out effort either (HR only about 85% whr) so now have an eye on a PB at Reading next month.
Plan was 8.23`s (1.50) Splits - 8:29, 8:25, 8:20, 8:22, 8:05, 8:28, 8:21, 8:30, 8:12, 8:20, 8:11, 7:50, 7:48, 0.45 (0.11m)
Sub 90mins showdown. Should be close if the conditions are ok. *** Sub 90 achieved! Very happy. Faded last two miles, so pretty sure I can go quicker!
Cold and wet at the start but soon warmed up and got to a steady pace. Felt good throughout - but didn't push hard as 2 hard weeks of marathon training coming up.
Prof Disco Dean
just missed out on pb
Back for a third year. Hoping not to struggle over last 2 miles up that slight but what feels like a long drag to the finish line.
Ran really well. Split times show 1st mile was slowest at 7.54. Other thanthat all miles within 15 seconds of each other. With last mile 6 59. Felt really good all way round. Overtaking all the way, especially on small uphill sections over the 2 motorway bridges.
Nice flatish course, torrential rain at the start but brightened up nicely. New PB so overall a worthwhile trip.
Chaotic at start due to the appalling weather, just managed to get the bike locked up & baggage handed over before the start. The time zoning didn't work out at all due to the baggage log jam. Ran comfortable up to 6miles after which the whole thing became a bit of a slog. I might give this one a miss next year as the course is getting a bit too familiar - It'd be nice if the organisers could include some of the town in the course. Medal's OK but would prefer a T-shirt or other momento.
Great race but recovering from foot injury
watch time. Heavy rain made for a grim trudge to the start. luckily I got to the loo quickly (long queues) and then was able to give my stuff to my bag carrier (OH). Run started well but at 7 miles I started flagging. I took my gel and picked it up again but at mile 10 I flagged again. Unfortunately did not have another gel (note to self, carry two!) and so walk/ran to the finish. Bit disappointed as I was on for a PB and up till mile 10 was on target. If I had not had two miles at nine and a half minutes I would have been there. Sadly it was not meant to be today. Excuses do include a lack of sleep last night and not as many long runs outside since January as I would have liked.
Damm good Race
brilliant course - love this one
Very wet before start big queues at toilets and baggage tent and plenty of mud at tent.
Pretty solid 6.30 pacing with a bit added on for a slow start and a slow 10th mile split. Enjoyed it lots, met some Fetchies and rain stayed away during the race. Didn't that Jock do well?
Official timing appears to have been out. No response from organisers after almost a week... disappointing
My first half marathon and the last 2 miles were the most difficult I have ever run!
Ran with Mum, lovely after a very cold wet start. 10 mm. Pleased!
A few slow people starting from 1:10 pace pen and legs felt a bit tired from mara training at the end but glad to get a pb!
PB by 5 minutes and I've been paying for it all afternoon! On the mend now.
Re. the race, because of the weather the kit tent and start were chaotic - I and lots of others queued for over 20 minutes to drop bags, and then ran down late to the start. Otherwise pretty well organised though very very busy
Ran well and a PB!!!!!!!!!!!
Weekend after Bramley 20, so not exactly hoping for a PB! Update: Guess I got a suprise there
Not as good as last year noticed the injury lay off
No warm up as undersetimated time to start from car park. Still a PB with plenty to spare and no injuries. Chuffed!! On track for Great Welsh Marathon and a great season.
Failed to register a chip time, so this is my own watch time (1h29 gun time). Stupidly stood shivering in the cold and wet by the 1.25 pace board when we were lining up, so spent the first 3 miles weaving in and out like a nutter... Anyway, felt OK, not brilliant, but OK.
This was my first half marathon.
