I really enjoyed this race and not just 'cos I got a PB!! Bit more sunburnt than London last year but who cares, think the medal is the best I've got and made the journey from and back to Scotland bearable after my planes were cancelled.
slowed right down at 22m last 4m vv hard. more hill work maybe
Running fine for the first 20 started to slow down and last 3 miles were horrible - kept running but my pace was not far above walking - tunnel vision no feeling in legs but a PB so can't complain!!!!
I've entered Brighton and London marathons in April, so whatever happens in the ballot I'll be doing one.
In fact I unexpectedly got a ballot place for the VLM - the current plan is to run both!
Time on the Brighton Marathon website was a bit longer than the text they sent on the day! No longer a PB
Effing noghtmare. Not the race organisation, that was perfect
but, tumy issue, too hot, head played up, a truly awful performance form me
5 minutes 32 sec off my PB
A very well organised event, which can only get bigger and bigger. Glad I was there for the first one, but found this very tough - it was too hot for me and I had stomach 'issues.' Still a PB (thanks to everyone who bet - I think that's what kept me going in the last few miles!) but not as big as I'd hoped.
Started well but suffered from cramp after 19 mile mark, so second half considerably slower than the first
Yay new pb!!! Last 6miles killed me but the support from the crowd fetchies or not was amazing. A great new event - shame about the 2min discrepency on finish times on the iPhone app leading to a bit of confusion.
All went well till 23km, then cramp set in - product of missing 1 month of training with dodgy knee. Glad to make it to the end in 3.51.
So happy with the race and so happy with my results! Smashed my estimate and I'm sure I can beat it by even more next time around.
a bottle of whit ye looking at
too damn hot... and not liking the double backed sections (or the hills up to Roedean and Ovingdean )
Excellent race organisation and brilliant support throughout the course. Definately one to consider for next year.
A new shiny PB!!!!
Third time lucky - been injured training for FLM twice so thought I'd try this one!
Great race, met lots of nice Fetchies.
Could do better...
Calf absolute agony 12-15 miles (slowed to a shuffle) then eased allowing me to get under 4hrs (just).
HEad cold the day before didn't help either.
Hot! Hard work
Running with a nagging knee injury so had to slow up for the 2nd half. Hated the bit round the industrial estate and really struggled. got an energy injection as soon as we got on the sea front and cruised home. Not as fast as I would have liked but with injuries and lack of training delighted with time.
Had a decent race. Perhaps ran a bit too conservately though and was a good few minutes off at half. That said, although there was a bit of slowing in the second half ran fairly evenly (1:26 & 1:28) and avoided the wall despite the mock-up. Time pretty representative of my training. Thanks for the bets - sorry I lost your credits.
Hot day, tailed off from mile 18. Need to work on better pacing, a salt drink around 18/19 might have helped. Quite pleased for first ever marathon. Would probably do it again, the spport was fantastic.
my first ever marathon, i want to finish with no walking and hopefully no pain
Superb race, good organisation and excellent support from spectators. With a cloudless sky it was a bit too warm for me in the (unshaded) second half. Set off at about 3:15 pace, but couldn't keep it going in the second half of the race. Pleased to get under 3:30 for the first time.
That was a good 'un
First half of two marathons in 7 days for 'Help for Heroes'. Running the VLM London the following Sunday. Yikes...
Did the best I could on the day. Enjoyed the event. May well return to this race in the future
A very well organised Marathon. Great atmosphere. Great medal. Gives London a run for its money. Happy with PB.
Got a charity place. Running for local Hospice of St Francis so will be extra motivated. This will be my 4th marathon.
Time of last and first marathon is 4hrs 43 mins - will adjust prediction time depending on training
Hellish hot and tummy problems but very pleased with time considering 20 mins of it was toilet stops.
Gun time 03:40:21
Looking for a pb at my hometown marathon...
PB Achieved but a little bit gutted as missed sub 3.30 by 5 lousy seconds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Means i'll have to do another marathon now
Fab fab event in my wonderful city..brighton and hove you did us runners proud
Injured - got round!
First marathon - run with a very sore left knee, blisters on little toes and very hot!
Did it!!! First ever marathon. The road to hell was HELL, miles 20 to 24 were tough. Great support and really well organised race. One and only criticism would be a few more loos needed at start. The sun was shining, gentle breeze and no planes in the sky!!
Relentless sun cost me a few minutes - thats my excuse anyway!
Was averaging a 2.48 finsh upto mile 21. Faded over the last 5 miles which was probably due to the lack of quality long runs in training. Certainly enjoyed it. Will plan to incorporate more slower long runs into future marathon schedules. Now I've got a sub-3 first marathon under my belt I really want to push on and aim for a sub2.40 in London next year a I should get a guaranteed entry. A tough goal but I really think I've got it in me to achieve it !!!!
Was meant to be in Boston but kind offer from organisers to accept late entry for those that could not travel overseas was gratefully accepted. Little or no plan for the route just run and see but surprisingly hilly first half and felt hot from the clear skies and no shade. Second half was flat with a fairly dull section out towards docks/power station? meant mental state was a bit ragged. The final 3 or so miles were lined with huge crowds and I felt swept along by the support. Not sure about race organisers time my watch was 3:14:12 whereas I got a text 3:12:09 [update text clearly rubbish as website confirms by watch time]. Splits I captured were half way at 1:33:15 (7:07/mile) [website 1:33:41 (7:09/mile)] and 20 miles 2:24:54 (7:13/mile) and the final 10k in 49:18:04 (slowed to 7:56/mile). This does not feel entirely in line with how I felt and maybe the mile markers were not accurately placed?
Bought entry on line late. Running / walking with Nigel. His achilles tendon is shot and he shouldn't run. May end up carrying him.
Mr Taylor was not as injured as he lead me to believe. He wanted a time of sub 4 - so i paced him at 8.30. Job done.
3:10:00 at 21 miles, cramp at 21.5 miles, 5 mies of pain/walk/jog
Was certain that I would at last break the 3 hour barrier after 22 miles but with 5k to go cramp struck and had to stop and lost loadsa minutes, but still knocked 4 minutes off best so good decision run. Ran with 3 hour group for a while but that just broke up around midway and had to work mostly by myself for the last half. Nice race with great crowd supports.
Try not to strain your back washing the car the weekend before the race.
Went off WAY to fast. 10k in 48 mins, half 1:46. Last half 2:17! And chattered for 8 miles. Wondrous race, though.
Managed to break 4 hours on my first marathon. Spent a great deal of time and effort getting past slower runners who had obviously put down the wrong completion time.
Now to improve on that time
Very hot day. Toygh race. Found first 16 miles comfortable, but then hamstring went so last part was tough. Did much better than anticipated. Couple of weeks off and then full steam ahead for Berlin. Aiming for around 3:30. Much hard work to be done.
Best race overall!!!! Great crowds - lovely weather. Thoroughly recommend this one! PB for me!
Flew in from Brazil 3 days before. Jetlagged. Totally crashed at mile 17. Limped home.
great day out!
Very hot day. Had side pain for 19-20 miles of the marathon! Not stitch, Dr's are looking into. Too fast for first 8 miles.
First marathon hard going.
Good run - no walking at all!!
My first marathon and thoroughly enjoyed - now planning for next year as I have to get under 4 hours!
Organisation was great, nice course with only small climbs and fantastic crowd support. Nice medal at the end as well but I don't remember much of the last few miles!
Too hot and started to fast!
Race number 12076
The Mighty OFK
fantastic race would recommended it to everyone, had great 1st half 1:50 hi the wall at 18miles the miles lost through training can never be replaced
