Bit of a poor race for me#! the weather was horrible and my ankle is still poorly! and got a fairly impressive blister on said poorly foot too!
By eck how jolly dee in that weather and in the middle of marathon training
A wet and windy day, horrible conditions from start to finish, very busy first two miles slowing things right down, still managed a PB by two seconds so not all bad. Would do this race again.
Cold, wet and windy. Slow first few miles due to the amount of competitors and the narrow roads. No PB this time.
A very wet and windy day for it. Knee still playing up. Took 5 mins off my last PB but knee held me up at the last mile,a nice flat course but a bad, congested end that meant you could not get over the finish line.
Personally I enjoyed this race, although I definitely agree with people on the poor organisational aspects of the race.
No mile markers was the main thing that bugged me. You just didn't know if you were pacing yourself appropriately for that section of the race.
More toilets were needed.
It was a stramash at the start. People were not organised into sections by expected finish time, probably because they were too busy waiting for a piss or to hand their bag in.
There were no volunteers at the baggage collection points at the end.
The roads were not completely closed off so there were pedestrians nipping across in front of you from time to time.
There were no warnings about static street objects, eg. fences, benches, cones. Just read another runners report about a poor lassie falling over a bench and smashing her face. That kind of stuff should just not happen and I too hope she is OK.
The finish line was congested. It didn't affect me, but I would be really pissed off if it had.
I didn't mind the weather too much. It kept you cool.
Saying that though, I enjoyed this race greatly (believe it or not) and I will do it again next year, but PLEASE organisers, listen to these criticisms. They are easily resolved and if left unattended, potentially very dangerous.
horrible horrible race. Very cold, wet and windy. Finally had wind and rain behind me and was struck by dreaded stomach problems... a lot of walking needed.
Crap weather no chance of a PB!
Hail, freezing cold, and dodgy knee didn't help with this one. Organisation wasn't great. My time is from my Garmin not my official race time - they apparently turned the chip timer system off at about 2h45, of which there was no warning in any of the race info. Some people (well ahead of me) had to wait to get over the finish line because the finish area wasn't clearing quickly enough and the marshalling in some of the areas where there were crossovers and switchbacks was non-existent, especially for those at the back (who were hampered by runners who had finished just milling about in the middle of the course. The route is nice, but everything else was a bit rubbish.
In summary badly organised. Most people have already covered the "issues" with the race. For me the biggest was how dangerous it was to be running along footpaths covered in street furniture, very few of which were clearly marked. This was highlighted when a girl behind me ran straight into a bench, went flying and smashed her face on the pavement. I continued to try and get some help, as others were attending to her, but there were no marshals for hundreds of yards and the first ones I did find were more worried about sheltering out of the rain than providing any assistance. I hope she wasn't too badly injured. Summed up the race for me, won't be back.
Run as training run not as race. Plan was to do an easy 10 miles at 9mm pace and then the last 5k at 8mm pace. Did almost exaxtly that, jsut a bit quicker. Still feels frustrating being 7mins slower than last year even though I know wasn't racing this.
Very happy, not surprised that I didn't achieve a PB, 2 years older, 1 stone heavier, only 4 weeks to train and a whole lot unfitter. Uber-frustrating at the beginning with lots of runners narow streets, sharp turns and some runners clearly not in the right starting pen. I was glad to have my garmin (no visible mile markers) as I wouldn't have known otherwise how far through the race I was. Conditions were also very tough especially the drag out to Hove, however my splits were pretty consistent until the last 2 miles but I did have enough left for a bit of a quick finish - overall very satisfied will run again but will try and edge further up the field at the start next year - oh and bring a spare pair of socks and trainers for after the race.
Sorry peeps no PB, have done my hip in
Running with Philly and Kate
Longest I've ever ran - against heavy, bitter wind & hailstones. Surely if I can do this, I can do anything? Had immense fun, did not at any point want to pull out, smiled the entire time, & finished 13 mins ahead of what I thought it'd take. So proud of myself!
First ever Half. Done a training run...well jog...in 2 hours. So expecting to hit target.
Less than a minute off my PB in wet & windy conditions after a weeks not running due to leg/calf problems!! Quite pleased with the result, especially as it felt *fairly* comfortable on the way round, with my last 3-4 miles being my quickest!
Congested, windy and wet.
Apart from the weather all went pretty well. The course was a bit tight n twisty for first couple of miles n coulda been marshalled / organised better, but once out in the open u were able to run ur own race. Rain n headwind not very nice but only 30 secs off pb from last yr so pretty happy.
Absolutely dreadful organisation! Too big a field; poor marshalling; mile markers not visible; not enough loos; baggage drop-off chaotic; baggage pick-up a lottery.
Weather awful but can't legislate for that.
Above said, actually enjoyed running it! negative splits for first time!
hope to run slightly quicker than 2009....we'll see i guess
VERY WET AND WINDY...PRETTY CONSISTENT times though so very pleased with time
Got stuck before i could cross the finishing line. I have recorded my watch time, not the official time
terrible weather - battered by the wind into Hove!
Difficult conditions - windy and rain at the start and towards the end. A bit congested at the start too, so I lost about a minute in the first couple of miles. My main reason for doing it was to get some familiarity with parts of the Brighton Marathon course, so mission accomplished!
Wet and Windy but I finally conquered the 2 hr barrier!
Very busy in the early stages, but felt so strong, and bearing in mind this is amidst marathon training and with little to no taper I am astounded with the results!
Windy and rainy. Really cold afterwards...
Nasty, nasty weather. Wet, windy, yuk. Ran on own. Very pleased with time.
Got stuck in the crowds for the first 3 - 4 miles. Cost me a PB, along with the wind & rain!
A gut full of larger & pizza with just 4 hours sleep so wasn't looking for a pb. Even with the awful weather & congestion I pb'd by 3 secs!
Sleet and hail and cold rain, lots of wind. I really liked the rain, but hated the end, it was awfully organised.
Not the best time but still very happy especially when running in almost new trainers and horrible wet weather..
Given the adverse weather and bad conditions felt pretty strong and ran strong in the last few miles
Slow first few miles due to volume of runners.
Only did 3 practice runs, so fine.
Freeeeeezing cold & rainy. Did it solo, no support.
Mile Eater Mitch
A windy wet day. Paced this pretty well despite running a negative split.
Good course but wet and parking very expensive
Horrible day ... Rain rain rain and than some more rain ..ran with Bex and dave bright

I will be at the water station at Hove Lagoon. If you know anyone who wants to help out on the day then they'd be more than welcome. Get them to let me know so that I can tell the organisers:)
