mr_road It hurt, it hurt lots. Knees are not as bad as the blisters on the insides of my heels.
I crossed tower bridge just ahead of Homer Simpson. I passed the angel of the north coming passed the cutty sark.
The caterpillar with Princess Beatrice passed me but I can't remember where.

Thanks you to who ever it was at the fetch point who gave me some sweets and a ribenna, it was the best ribenna I have ever tasted. Unaffiliated 6:52:01 6:52:01 5:00:00 6:52:01 29.50

bear17 my first ever marathon and can say I did enjoy it and want to do it all again!!Not the best time that I wouldve liked at 5hrs 35mins - but did a slow first half 2hrs 30mins and stopped twice for loo (queued) and a few stops for stretches !(moving time on Garmin was 5hrs 5mins). Recovered much better than expected ,went to work next day and no pain from Wednesday onwards ..........now concentrating on a 2hr Half this year PB so far 2hrs 3 mins at Silverstone (in a pace group)Did everything by the book food wise and hydration wise before and after event ...........FANTASTIC !! loved doing YMCA dance as I headed down the Mall to finish !! Colutd Robbo Well that went better than expected! Am pretty pleased with that. However, my failing body has told me no more marathons!! Think it was the 4 bottles of lucozade and 6 bottles of water I had - felt like I was constantly drinking. I think it was following the London Pride fancy dress bottle that did it. Watford Wobble Runner number 4168.

Running for Help For Heroes www.justgiving.com/Ashley-Walden.

This was hot hard work. Possibly my hardest marathon due to conditions and number of runners. People on their phones whilst running annoyed me. People taking photos whilst running annoyed me. People swerving all over the road without looking annoyed me. Stomach cramps from mile 19. As a race VLM is not good. As a running event you can't beat it. Pllumby Decided to run at a comfortable pace and see how far I got. I got 18.5 miles then I got cramp in both calves!

Before that I was running around 8:15 mm and feeling OK for a sub 3:45 time. When it became obvious I couldn't get rid of the cramp I decided to hobble on and enjoy the day without trying for a time. You get a completely different perspective on the race when your one of the stop/ start hobblers. The crowd focus on you and really shout their encouragement to get you started again.

Fetchpoint was again amazing and because I was hobbling I even got a chance to stop and chat for a while.

Despite the cramp it was a brilliant day! Unaffiliated 3:58:20 4:11:24 4:00:00 4:11:24 50.66

MadJonny Cool adn wet start suggested quick time (despite forecast for warmer weather). Started at front of pen 5 and across start in under 5 mins. 10-30 first mile but then 9 min miling and got halfway in just over 2hrs. Tired from 15 miles and had to slow, then walk briefly at 22 and 24 miles before running to end. Hardest of my 4 marathons but pleased that I pushed hard. Unaffiliated 4:10:07 4:17:30 4:17:30 48.69

Minks Really pleased with my new PB, but overall didn't enjoy this race as much as the other London Marathons I've done. This time it just wasn't comfortable from about 8M in - piriformis niggle was bothering me. Normally I find it all pretty comfortable until around 16-18 miles, but this time it was hurting even before I'd got halfway. A lot of it dragged despite the awesome crowd support, but I did manage to stay focused and concentrate on my splits which were fairly even I think. Was running pretty much 8 miles an hour but I think pace dropped off a bit in the last 6 miles. Unaffiliated 3:19:11 3:19:11 3:20:00 3:19:11 68.90

philbo A brilliant day despite the soaking before the off , my 1st London , very surprised how smoothly everything went in the build up to the race , no hassle with trains plenty of marshals on hand to answer any queries , the race its self , i set out to slowly and once you've lost time no way are you going to make it up , only 8 mins outside what i wanted to do so not to bad , plus the last three miles were my quickest !!! , the crowds were amazing in some parts almost intimidating they were that loud !! any way a brill day and cant wait till i get in again. :-) Unaffiliated 4:38:32 4:38:32 4:38:32 48.92
Jonny Bad run, legs felt tired before I'd even begun. Knew it would be tough straight away and started struggling as early as 8 miles. Got to halfway in 1.58.xx which was fairly good pacing given that I forgot my garmin but it felt far too hard for that pace. No cramp, just tired legs.
I have to say I don't really like London, too many people to dodge, drink bottles scattered everywhere & the route isn't particularly inspiring. The support is amazing but I'd prefer to be halfway round a picturesque off-roader with no one around. Unaffiliated 3:27:32 4:22:24 4:22:24 46.58

SiPod I knew it would be busy just not this busy, am glad I did it but gave up on my sub 4 hour goal quite early on as was fed up of veering all over the place to find gaps and avoid other runners. My garmin tells me I did an extra half a mile so taking this into account could lose 4 minutes off the time but still not under the elusive 4 hour barrier. Was going to be my last marathon but have already applied for next year and will try for a less crowded marathon to get under 4 hours. Unaffiliated 4:08:04 4:13:55 3:55:00 4:13:55 48.01

Enaoslm My first marathon and I want to do the best I can. Be chuffed with under 4 hours but quietly hoping to get near 3.5 hours.
Ran with Tommy Clayson and Andrew Miller. Fantastic event and great atmosphere. Started in Red zone 6, which was 9min/mile pace. Probably a bit of a slow pace as I was hoping to pace at 8:20. Meant it was difficult to get up to speed due to the crowds. Ended up doing a lot of dodging.
Ended up running a fairly constant pace around 8:30 and very satified with the result. It was a very tough last 6 miles but my legs felt strong.

Go-KL Back after a year away - hoping all the extra training pays off and the long trips away leading up to the race don't hinder too much. Sub 2:50 is the first goal, if things go really well, I hope to go quicker.

Virgin London Marathon. Something of a miracle I made it after being stuck in first Shanghai, then Hanoi, Vietnam and not due back until Tuesday. Had emergency massage Saturday evening which helped a bit but right hip was still sore and was exhausted standing on the start line - wet and cold too after a rain shower. First four miles went to plan, but it was apparent early that HR was too high and I was struggling with right hip. Pace began to gradually slow through to halfway as I maintained constant HR, but I was enjoying the atmosphere once any hopes of a super quick time had disappeared. Needed to stop for a toilet break at 14 miles which cost me 80 seconds, then continued to fade through to 20 miles as HR was impossible to keep below 165. At 20 miles the planned free for all began and things felt better as I concentrated on running as hard as possible. Only in the final mile did left leg feel like it was about to cramp, but came through to the finish just outside 2:55 - which I was really happy with considering. Weather: mostly cloudy, around 17C.
Following few days saw right hip completely lock up and walking was near impossible. Was suffering exhaustion by Tuesday, slowly recovered through the week. Grantham Running club 2:40:47 2:55:04 2:49:59 2:55:04 69.64

Bolt This will be my 4th London Marathon and I'm reasonably happy with the way training has gone. It's been a busy few months so, as usual, there is that niggling feeling that I could have done more...but isn't it always so. The main thing is that I've come through un-injured and my weight is down to a reasonable level. So with the right weather and a good start I'm feeling positive about at least breaking the PB, if not that target of sub 3:15.

But, hey, I'm going to try and enjoy it too...this is the LM and the first VLM after all. Harwich Runners 3:26:49 3:26:49 3:14:58 3:26:49 62.08

briandarroch The last few weeks lack of running really hurt my stamina. Ran steady for the first half but it was much harder going that my previous marathons. My heartrate was the same as 5 weeks ago and I was running 90 seconds slower per mile! It was still a great experience and I'm glad that the problems that I've had over the last month seem to be over. OK - training went perfectly. Didn't miss a session but alas ours is a cruel sport and for reasons unknown it went tits up. a 1:24 half should have put me near 3:00 but I crawled in at 3:11:40 having the wheels fallen off @ 14 mile. ^^^^ comment remains valid. Laurence Gutted! Too many people, too many slow runners (walkers even!) up front causing bottlenecks and/or blocking progress. Couldn't even do target pace for short periods until much later in the race when I couldn't accelerate any more. Worked hard to get good for age, which went out the window during the first 10 minutes of the race! Brilliant atmosphere though and the crowd were great. WACA Perfect weather conditions for a superb London marathon, cool and a bit wet to start with but brighening later. Was good. I wasn't in a right mind to do this race, prob not right physically either, Isle of Mann and Wuthering hike had already taken their toll and I didn't do enough other mileage to fine tune. Nevertheless I went for it and up to half way was doing well, my energy regime was not natural for me and I felt like I was gulping too much water. My pulse was too high early on at about 156 and naturally I couldn't sustain it, good experiment for me really. I need to train so I can get more efficient running at about 146 which I sustained for 3.07 last year, but if I will do other stuff I can't complain. Despite wanting to quit at 16 miles I'm glad I didn't and although I'm stiff as a crack willow today I'm happy I did it and the atmosphere and support were phenomenal. I can get good for age on last year's performance to get me into next year, so all I need to do is remember this and train accordingly and run accordingly to get good for age again! Lots left to do this year inc an ironman and I need to remmember this to do that! Pocklington Runners, Civil Service Runners & Riders 3:07:32 3:21:54 3:30:00 3:21:54 62.57

CStar Sub 4 hours or bust. Nearly bust! Just made it, so happy. Slow first 2 miles and then settled in at 8.30's all the way through to 21. Even felt fine though Docklands and Canary Wharf. Going really well, then slowed badly at 21/22M. Absolutely nothing left in the tank at the end, although did manage to run the whole way.
Refuelling strategy absolutely fine, so I thought. Have decided my body is not built for Marathon's - just cant store enough glycogen to keep me going. Will focus on Halves from now on. Was always going to be my last Mara anyway Sandhurst Joggers 3:33:50 3:58:04 3:59:59 3:58:04 54.38

kudu Haven't been able to train properly for about 5 weeks so quite pleased. Went off a 6 minute miling which was a little quick with my lack of recent training. Felt comfortable until docklands and then began to really put some effort in to keep the pace going. Need more miles next time so it doesn't start to hurt quite so early. Was on for a time in the low 2.40's until mile 21 when the wheels began to wobble. Felt on the verge of cramp, was really tense and didn't quite have it mentally. I only needed 6.45 miles for the last 4 and I'd have comforatble made it, but could only manage between 7 and 7.15. Thought I'd lost my chance at 2.45 along the embankment, but then sprinted the last 800 meters (in 3.04) to come in just 4 seconds outside.
Learnings for next time
- make sure I drink more of my SIS drink (still had over half left at finish)
- when I get tired and legs hurt - RELAX, do not tense up
- maybe don't mess around so much early on as 5 seconds here or there can make a difference!

LukeStur Tough tough race.
Felt absolutely atrocious the day before and on the morning of the race. Decided to just down a few parecetemol and just go for it.
Stuck to just under 2h50m pace pretty much up until about 20m and then everything just went from bad to worse. With every 5k I was slowing up even more, and my family who saw me at mile 22 said I looked like death.
Hung on in there for a PB, but would have been nice to get under 2.55 (maybe if I hadn't been quite so ambitious at the start).

A PB with 3.11.49, but didn't do myself justice as my pacing was terrible (not helped by the fact that my Garmin was as flat as a pancake at the start - must have turned itself on in my rucksack during my travel up to London). Looking at the splits, my race was over over after the first 15k, too much damage done to recover!!! Average pace overall at the 5K Splits: 5k at 6.41 (11s too fast), 10k at 6.43 (9s too fast), 15k at 6.44 (8s too fast), 20k at 6.47 (5s too fast), 25k at 6.50 (just right), 30k at 6.56 (now the average paced has slowed), 35k at 7.04 (really struggling!), 40k at 7.15 (really, really struggling!!), 42k at 7.19 overall and just glad to finish!!! Impossible is Nothing At last a marathon that went (pretty much) according to plan. Ran well for the first 18 miles at a pace leading to about 3:06 then legs started to tire, but didn't feel too bad until last 2 miles when slowed a lot to 8 min/miles. Thought the 3:10 was going out the window but managed to hang in - and a good feeling rounding corner by Buck Pal to see I had enough time. Overall great then, hopefully legs will recover quickly. Went for a Powergel + 330ml water every 4 miles (with sneaky voltarols at 1 and 2 hours, not sure they made any difference). Caffeinated gels at 4, 12, 20 miles. 5k 22:16; 10k 44:05; 15k 66:00; 20k 88:06; 25k 109:55; 30k 132:13; 35k 155:15; 40k 178:47. Lucky Jim Weather - rain at start, warmed up as race progressed but generally not too bad. Field was packed for first 13 miles or so and there were too many runners that had clearly been 'over ambitious' in their predicted times. Spectators were brilliant. DanG Really pissed about the spectator who crossed the road in front of me at 20miles... Just what you need as the wall approaches!!!!!!
