This will be the 3rd sub 90 attempt this year....shit or bust!!:P
I AM A SUB 2 HOUR HALF MARATHONNER!!! By the skin of my teeth but I am one - just totally delighted! A wonderful day - great support from my big buddy DeeGee and mate Milesey!
Entered 29/5. heard it's quick and decent field so target race. Started steady in mile 1 in 5:20 and was lying 3rd (first 2 shot off in first 50m), 2 guys set off at mile 1 and further 2 at mile 3. Lying 7th with one other pushing me until half way, then left him and caught 6th place at mile 8. 5th place was always 30secs ahead but it focused my mind for last 5 (if I could catch him and get 50quid), where I felt strong. Got taken at mile 13 as we entered onto the grass, saw the clock so sprinted to get under 73 but didn't catch him. A new PB on a dullish but flat course and had company to push me.
splits 3mile 16:28, 5mie 27:21, 10mile 55:37. last 5k 17:20 (fastest for a half so pleased). Came 7th.
Hooray! PB! good run and well paced
PB unlikely, just getting round without aggravating injury would be nice, actually making the start line will be an achievement
***UPDATE*** Garmin time, awaiting official results. Expect to be just outside my PB, but very happy with time, considering injury problems I've had. Acheived everything I set out to do today and had a lovely run with a great vibe:-)
Did beautifully paced 9:20mm for the first 9.5 miles, then lost it. But overall a good result, well inside my target.
Its been one year since my first half, this could be a good race depends on weather and how I am feeling.
Super day super race great time and still smiling now
Great weather today, this is my garmin time...plus 1 min for loo break so ..all in all a great day....
Chip time 1:57:31...
I can only try for a PB. Gonna run the first 5/6 and see how I'm doing. Training has been fab and working up to this since my comeback from injury after last years GER. A few demons to overcome there but you never know!! POST RACE UPDATE - 2 hours 2 mins 5 secs very pleased with my new PB!!!
chip time - 1 second different from garmin - can't be bad
Good race ran partly in reverse this year. Still a quick course, disappointed that we now have to pay for parking!
Be happy with 1.25 for this as I'll be about a month away from where I want to be fitness wise-UPDATE pleased with how it went and had a good run.
Ran with Josh - her first half and only second ever race.
Two letters: P.B.
Mrs Jigs (Luverlylegs)
Set off with club runners Nigel and Andy and hoping to pace at 7:20 m/m, first 3 miles were a bit faster than planned and already I was struggling with the pace so decided to drop back, at 3.5 miles had to stop at a house for a comfort break so the strategy of no caffeine for 3 days didn't do the trick! Mile 5 and I had a very uncomfortable stitch and was also feeling drained so knew I needed my gel and was a bit worried about taking it in case it made the situation worse, took it at about 5.5 miles but stitch didn't go until after 7 miles, by 8 miles I was feeling very fatigued, the last few weeks had really caught up with me, much as I tried to hang onto a decent pace it was gradually getting the better of me, saw a Corby shirt just after 11 miles and I was convinced that I picked up my pace to catch up with Angus and although I caught and passed him which gave me a terrific boost it was in fact my slowest mile! picked up through 12 & 13 and finished around 1:40, forgot to stop garmin so not sure of actual finish time. Maybe I need to rest a bit!!
Almost a 5 minute PB - amazed! Was on for sub 1:50 at the half way point, but couldn't quite manage it at the end. I stopped to help a collapsing lady in the last mile - she was staggering all over the place- another runner and I got her to the side of the road and lay her down, then I sprinted on to find a marshal and send them back to her - the sprinting was a poor idea as I then felt like I was about to collapse as well! I hope she was OK.
Official result, although garmin claimed 2:20:54
will beat last years time im sure ? ; update garmin time , very very happy with that effort. smashed pb by over 2 minutes hurt last 3 miles but worth it !now updated, 74th place, 5th in cat.happy days
A P.B on my home patch so get in there, wasnt going for it but felt good give it my all the last 400 metres.
My first Half Marathon!!
Training going really well for a fat old bloke. have done the grunty fen half as a warm up for this and will be going for another PB but difficult due the the unexpected success of Grunty..POST RACE: Another 6 mninutes off my PB, it's been a good year.
This is my PB course, but considering I haven't really run for 18 months now, training for this race is as much about getting back into running as it is about racing. I would love to PB, but being realistic a 2h50 is all I can really hope for....
Am running this year along with several of my colleagues in memory of Ian Ebbs who was tragically killed in an accident at work in October 2008.
Want to get a PB, been training to get a PB, but injuries in the last few weeks have really worried me. I didn't run at all in the last week, so came to it afresh having rested and most of my aches and pains having dissipated. Ran an absolute stonker and PBd by over 5 minutes
So-so time, sub-2 but 10 minutes off what I can do when I have the stamina.
Well organised race with all roads completely closed and good crowd support. Quite windy 1st half.
Did last year and had a good race; Had a good one this year as well! Wasn't expecting to really run so well today, but managed a BIG PB of 1:18:10 by my watch, over 2 minutes off my previous PB. Very happy! Spot on with the time, official chip time 1:18:10! And first V50! Yes!!
Even paced. 16th sub 85 half. 31st half marathon
I achieved this time for my last half in March but I was a lot fitter then so we'll see!
GER - PB by nearly 5 minutes, really good run, kept pace up all the way
Never envisaged getting anywhere near this time today - but really pleased to have done it.
well i won't say i'm happy but mt time wasn't too bad considering it felt like i was out there for 5 hrs!!! still not sure why i felt so rough but meh wadda ya gonna do - as for race great spectatorship most flat course pbtastic on the right day
first half so just want to finish
Pb by over 2 mins so very happy. Fast course but a bit windy.
first race back from illness .....just get round under 2.......
shit.....bad sweat rash and crappy national express trains.......back next year then....
Disappointed with performance. Ave pace 8.55 which is much slower than my 11m leg at RNR 3 weeks ago. Had hoped to run nearer my PB time of 1.50.45. Legs felt tired and struggled from 9m onwards. Found it very hot too. Not a happy day!
6.54 for first 8 then start to slow and tense up
Lovely flat course. Ideal for PB's
Rubbish performance, aiming for 85 min this year, gulp... ; )
Having just become a V35 3 days earlier was v pleased with knocking 7 mins off previous PB
I ran this race for Whizz Kidz and so far I have been sponsored for just over £200 so thank-you to all those who sponsored me for this fantastic charity.
avg - 7.14 pace
splits - 6.59, 7.02, 7.05, 7.09, 7.16, 7.18, 7.14, 7.13, 7.17, 7.25, 7.31, 7.20, 7.06
