Pleased after a month of drinking rather than running. Was one of the lucky "elite" green runners. Was surprised that it wasn't a group start with the black numbers but meant a nice start.
Support on the course was great as were all those linked to the race. Only negative was NIA staff who seemed to think it was a crowd for a gig. Aggresive, loud and not knowledgeable, "only doing my job" to the enth degree, bag searches for cans of pop? not allowing a pram into the hall or a proud dad to accompany his son to pick up his bag. not a good advert for Birmingham but race itself was fun and Broad Street looked amazing!
Really bad start, in totally the wrong place and spent the whole time running around people. Enjoyed it though and felt strong. Was diasppointed with time as I felt as though I ran sooo much better than I did last week at Kenilworth (which was also much more undulating) but was slower!?!?!? Course did measure 13.23 though!?!?!?
Terrible race for me today. 20 seoncds ahead of scjedule at 10 miles...then legs went and course 150m-200m long, eased right back last 1.5 miles after giving up on the sub 80. Went off too fast clearly. 5.26 6.06 6.02 6.03 6.12 6.11 6.33 6.03 6.13 5.55 6.17 6.28 6.35
new course, so not sure of time. Plus it may be congested as its incorporating the world championships!!
Knew from 5k in I wasn't in shape to race so accepted it and just ran at the pace I could, legs died at 10 miles which shows that was a good decision. Will be back next year if it is the same course.
Splits 10km 0:44.21 15km 1:06.44 20km 1:31.53 Finish 1.38.00
Hoping for another sub 2hrs, got 2hrs 1 min last year in this race and it's supposed to be a little bit flatter this time around.
Missed out on this last year due to a clash - have to get a PB on home turf!
Sorry guys, not even close to the prediction, on for a PB until I blew up at mile 10. Slowly dropped from 7:20s to 9:30s just to finish, not 100% sure what went wrong. Nice race, wonderful amtmosphere and well organised. Could be stricter on the starting pen colours and I measured it as long by 0.25 miles, but my garmin could be wrong.
PB'd but Garmin measured 13.27!!!!
Really hoping for a PB in this one.
Support was great. Loved the bands at various points and the luco sport stations. Broad street finish was amazing. Some kids were holding their hands out so darted across the road to give them a slap which got a cheer from the crowd....then everyone wanted some!! lol
Organisation was very good. Even had someone at the start "enforcing" (read suggesting) the colour of your number should match the colour of the balloons. I also liked the long walk of collecting various bits at the end (water/luco/space blanket/medal/key ring/t-shirt/goody bag)....was quite weighed down at the end!
The race was bit of a blur for me today but I think the course was more scenic than last year. I posted a similar time to last year but my running felt more laboured today. This was definitely a triumph for my mental toughness overcoming my weary body.
great weekend in birmingham with team edf
This is my first time over this course and i hope that the start is well organised to allow a good time. Excelent race in both organisation and atmosphere, not a PB course. The hills around bournvile are not welcome but what the hec a great event.
Get in PB under 2 hours at last, special thanks to the lovely Ndellar who paced and ecouraged me all the way around.
Lovely race will def do again next year.
One Pace Carl
Hoping for under the 2hrs
well see if its possible :-)* was on for sub 1:40 until itb went pop
Will be targeting this race as the one where hopefully I finally break that 6 minute milling barrier. However the GP circus trip to Singapore and Japan the weeks before may take its toll.
Decided to go 'green' and go by train to the start which proved to be a mistake as it allowed only 50 minutes to get to the unsignposted start, by which time the few portaloos I could find had really long queues. I finally left them at 09:55 by which time I had no hope of getting to the black start and had to line up about 100 metres back.
This made for a fairly frantic first mile ducking and dodging and getting fairly medieval with a few Ipod wearers (Apologies if I offended anyone). Full of adrenaline the first 4 miles or so flew by. Struggled a bit round Bourneville where the noticeable undulations were (The course actually rose steadily for the first 6 miles). But miles 8-12 I was really strong with the slight tail wind and the drizzle cooling pleasantly. I knew I was on for a PB. The final mile almost put pay to that as we climbed loads and took on lots of niggly turns. But I put on an almighty sprint to finally go under 1:19 and under 1:18:39 (chip time). Was really pleased but slightly frustrated at the wasted energy in the first mile. Weather: drizzle, cloudy, around 12C slight breeze (Near perfect). Garmin measured 13.30 miles but was about .2 out from the first mile (I think it got confused right near the start. Went through 10 miles in an unofficial PB of 59:48.
First Half and won't have been able to train past 9 miles so will be 'interesting'
good race, raining for quite a while, but still a good day.slowed on the last 800 metres, legs just siffened and i must have been passed by about a hundred people(must be old age eh).
Looking for a PB here hopefully *UPDATE* Pleased with another big PB
Fantastic course for a pb . Did measure a little long got it to 13.24 miles .
Usual story: ran well (by my standards) till 10 then progressively died. Need a new training program. That aside I enjoyed it.
Really tough last mile - all up hill. Faded quite badly in final 2k and could have hit 1m26. But overall really happy. Felt very strong to 10k (40ish).
Bit slower than I would have liked but have had a cold for the last week so pleased to finish really
Probably not a PB (at the moment) but I'll do my best
gun time - 1:23:36
Really pleased with the time. Felt really tired and so was suprised I manage a PB 1st time under 1hr 40
Not sure what I was letting myself in for as my longest distance in training was 8 miles and I haven't run a race in my life but based on training times felt 2 hours was a good target to go for so thrilled to just outside that.
Definitely going to get under 2 hours for my next half with a bit of training want to try and get under 1:50...
my first race as a vet 40
7.00 min/ miles throughout except the last mile. Very pleased overall. 5 Mins quicker than last year
Thought I was on for a PB but my Garmin clocked the course at 13.36 miles?
Will be a PB attempt. Probably. But it'll be touch and go.
Change of plan. Will still race it, but not in PB form and would be delighted with a 2009 best.
Enjoyed this - didn't push it as I've been unwell in the past week and am mollycoddling an ITB niggle. Good, though tortuous, course, and not boringly flat. Road closures and other infrastructure excellent. Would have liked a cup of tea and a cake at the end!
Fabulous new course. organisation at the start needs sorting. People who run 10m/m in a pen with 6m/m runners is ASKING for someone to get seriously hurt in a crowded big city race.
Although you can't legislate for rank stupidity on the part of individuals.
Apart from the little gripes (and the ridiculous insistence by the officials at the NIA to move out of the building to make space for the incoming runners - which was inane in the extreme) this was a far better event than last year.
Time is watch time. I'll update it with official time when it's out
Not good run up to race, training much reduced. Treated as a decent sunday longer run was realaistically never going to be a PB attempt
ran with blind dave
A great race, well organized, plenty of room to run, very fast at the start. Will do it again next year hopefully with my eldest son running as well.
This is my chip time. My Garmin had me finishing 13.1 in 1.37:00 and measured the distance run as 13.27m. Very good PB, whatever the precise time. I'm being proper and putting the official time in. In training log I'll put Garmin time, which is 7.23 mm pace , 10K at 45.52, 10m at 1.13:45. Stomach cramps from about half way around which I ignored with the help of a Thame harrier running about the right pace for me, who I was then able to drop in the last mile. Thanked her later for the pacing.
I had fun! and a PB too. mile 13 was a killer!
My first ever half and first ever race of this size.
Just hoping to get round in a good shape. Will attempt PB records next year.
Hit all pace targets at mile markers up to mile 12 but constant uphill climb to finish from mile 12 meant I missed sub 2 hour target. Still a very good run. Nutrition strategy - iso gel plus caffeine at 6 and 10 miles with water - worked very well.
Solid run. Easy start. Speeded up at end. Felt fresh despite 90 mins football day before.
Disappointed and felt really negative.
917 from 10,000
Made up with sub 2 hours!
Red Scouse MK
Cold but enjoyable
