Poor water stations
Well that was tough!!! Nice flat course, but the headwind from around mile 9 to the finish really put the nail in the coffin for getting a good time! I had my usual problems with the hip and leg at the start, got through mile 1 in 6:37mm then my leg settled down and I got into a good pace, overtook loads of runners and by mile 7 which was a switchback I was on around 81-82min pace. The course then went back on itself and I was chasing down a group of runners ahead, but pretty much isolated at mile the course turned right over a bridge and it was like hitting a brick wall! rest of the run, head down arms pumping trying to battle a headwind which was gusting and also blowing you sideways at times, mile 12 started to feel a little unwell, this soon subisded and I was able to pick the pace up over the last half mile or so, once back into shelter and out of the wind. Finished 17th overall with nobody else around, not to pleased with the time, but lost loads over second half of race, I know currently im on at least 82-84min shape on better conditions! I found start and finish area very disorganised and poor signs, also one of the water stations were missing, not a problem for me, but maybe it was for others.
Good luck everyone. I'm now the proud owner of a v. nice fetch t-shirt, so keep an eye out for me (I'll be the one trailing at the back...)
What happened to the water stations? I know it was a bit windy, but when I arrived at the first, there wasn't even any cups ready. Nice views running along the sea front (no water at 1/2 way mark, not too bad on the way back, but the cross wind along dungeness road was a killer (but I managed to overtake some people, so that keep the mood up). The apple in the bag at the end was well received by me (but a water station at the end would also have been nice). Anyway, considering what the weather could have been (it could have been raining as well as windy), it was a very pleasant day (and the OH + kids enjoyed the town and playground too). All the training I've put in for FLM is paying off, as I came in 20mins under my last PB.
woke up on a sunny morning and fancied a PB.was on course for this until the mini bridge at 11 miles.the wind was head on and strong.never mind try again at paddock wood.shame about the drinks stations as some of the less experianced runners could probably used more fluids.however the organization improved consiberly on last year.well done to all.thx lydd.
