Achilles Wow, what a struggle. Felt strong at the start and certainly expected to beat my MK half time. A delayed start added to the nerves (and an early toilet break), then the heat sapped my strength until the last couple of miles were a nighmare. Thought the finish was never going to arrive. steve7 Certainly felt the effects of missing about 4 weeks training, the last mile was a killer. I managed to maintain a good pace throughout and the clock at the mileposts helped as my watch was jostled and stopped. The race organisation, Marshalls and the crowd were great, a good lift when you needed it. Although my warm up consisted of a slow run to the start from the car park and some stretches waiting for the off, it took me 2 hours for a 55 mile trip the A43 was a nightmare thank goodness the start was delayed Fairlands Valley Spartans RC 1:35:24 1:41:57 1:40:00 1:41:57 64.58

Tim of MK Chip time - 1:41.24 (933rd of 6736 finishers)

This was my second half-marathon race in eight days, following last weekend's unexpected 1:40.54 PB in the Milton Keynes Half.

The dreamer in me was hoping that I'd have enough left 'in the tanks' for a full-on attempt at a sub-1:40 time today. But the realist in me knew, deep down, that my 2008/9 training regime of pretty much just 3 to 4 milers on the gym treadies wouldn't give me the stamina, endurance and leg strength needed.

And so it proved to be. I was definitely battle-weary today and had to ease off several times early on to avoid 'blowing up' completely. So, by about mile five, I set my target to be purely to run as even a paced effort as possible. I didn't even look at my times after mile 10 - just pushed the split button robotically whilst focusing on the track.

Finished with 1:41.24 (7.44 per mile average). This was surprisingly only 30 seconds slower than last week's PB and the 3rd best time of my 26th half-marathon finishes. So, no complaints whatsoever. I'm happy - especially as all my mile splits were within a 17 second banding.

If I'm to run more half-marathons through 2009 and into 2010 though, I think that I will have to re-introduce a long Sunday session. And maybe lose some of my 15st weight - yeah right.

(Mile 1 - 7.47 / Mile 2 - 7.39 / Mile 3 - 7.55 / Mile 4 - 7.42 / Mile 5 - 7.47 / Mile 6 - 7.41 / Mile 7 - 7.54 / Mile 8 - 7.37 / Mile 9 - 7.42 / Mile 10 - 7.38 / Mile 11 - 7.50 / Mile 12 - 7.47 / Mile 13 - 7.41 / Last 0.1 miles - 0.44)

What a great event! I wouldn't have chosen to enter this race, but absolutely loved running it as a pacer. Conditions were beautiful and I actually quite liked the course. Started off a minute behind clock time, but made up the deficit by Mile 9. Hopefully facilitated a PB or two :o) Cumberland AC, FERC 1:37:44 1:46:08 1:58:00 1:57:03 61.59

Vindicator Gutted - 5 seconds outside PB time. Killed myself in the last mile (slightly up hill and in to wind) to do it, but to no avail. May have gone off a bit quick, but the clue could well be in my Garmin distance... 13.37. In other measured halves it noirmally reads 13.2 at most. I suspect the wide bends of the track may have something to do with it..
Started off in front of the 7 min mile pacers, but got swept up by El Bee at ~8 miles, said Hi and tried to hold on to him. Harlow RC 1:28:30 1:30:12 1:31:00 1:32:13 64.71

Wickett Very upset stomach, so had to go very carefully. Hadn't trained either, so not too bad for a blagged race. Should have been faster, but I was just pleased not to throw up! Worcester Tri 1:27:30 1:33:15 1:40:00 1:33:15 63.61

Yoho Ahoy Hope to stay under 1:50 as long as I can keep to the racing line, brake late and accelerate well out of the corners.
So - 5 minutes outside where I wanted to be. This is what I get for not preparing properly. Great course, great weather, not such a great run. Unaffiliated 1:47:39 1:47:39 1:50:00 1:54:33 51.91
ZoStockdale 1st long race of 2009 - not sure how I will be. Probably won't be a PB though
