What a pile of crap! Great race, well organised. I thought I was well prepared but things went woefully wrong...
Only a couple of weeks after MdS so it may be a horribly painful, slow, slog. UPDATE: Decided to run in a Chicken suit. Had a laugh, but nearly melted as it was so hot. No idea of time, but it was just outside 2hrs. Was surprised how much harder it is to run in funny fur and a rubber mask than it is in technical materials!
Dont, never going to PB this!!!
Too hot again
The Mighty D
This will be my first and hopefully not last attempt at a half. Not sure what time i can expect. Will update nearer the time. Now that i have finally entered i will have to maintain and up the training. Watch this space! April update. Race number received. Route has some nice hills as you would expect! Hopiong now to break the 2 hour mark. Anything below 1hr 55 would be great for first half. Post Marathon update - 1hr 55 and 12 seconds how about that!
I'm hoping to knock 18 minutes off last years time
Still had Thursday's track session in my legs so felt like a long hard slog. Obvisously resting on Friday and Saturday was not enough to recovery. Guess we live and learn.
Relying on mile markers for pace was a poor idea. Didn't see any, guessed pace (very badly) blew up at what I thought was 8 miles (it was 11.5) stopped and chatted with spectators on the bridge, forced myself to jog it home after walking for a bit. Somewhat surprised to still get a p.b. A strange day for me, but a great race, well marshalled and very well supported. Managed to avoid the official car park too.
Stomach pains on and off throughout the run ruined any chance of a PB (probably due to the prawn curry I had the night before!) Last 2m painful.
Course OK and weather sunny. Flat 1st 3m then undulating through the centre before climbing up to the turnaround point. A nice downhill section and fairly flat 2nd half including an interesting part through a multistory car park, before finishing in Don Valley Stadium.
Took an energy get at 9m for the first time and seemed to work well so will try that again.
Overall not to disappointed. Thought it'd be the legs that'd go after Paris but they were fine. Sub 85 next time......
Splits: 6:10 6:18 6:27 6:38 6:42 6:42 6:42 6:28 6:31 5:40 6:37 6:52 6:51 1:40
Tough race with the very warm weather and very little wind. Had to actually stop at the water stations to ensure I had enough to drink. Not happy with my result, but much better than last year.
my flattest half marathon so far in 2009 - a new PB
Very pleased with time as woefully underprepared. Max distance trained 9 miles and then only twice! Original 2 hour 'dead' prediction based assumprion that I had put in the miles. felt comfortable throughout race keeping steady pace. Eccleshall road hill no problem. or at any other time during race. Felt really gooof throughout, really. Can't wait to train now for Potters arf in 7 weeks. inted to aim for under 2 hours despite hilly and potentially hot;- We'll see.
Went off a little too slow and couldnt make it up on the way back. A great reace though and a negative split, the finish in stadium is amazing. Will be back next year, roll on Leeds Half.
Felt really good (despite stomach cramps) and smashed PB by around 5 minutes
too congested at start. silly wanker in chewbacker suit twice almost tripped me by cutting bang in front
very hot, almost too hot.
enjoyed it very much tho. New PB. tried too put in effort to get under 1hr 30min but realised too dangerously hot to catch the 100feet up.
Warm day, stitch after about five miles. Not the flat course that was advertised... Poor performance all round..
NEW PB!!! Yay! Good run, but started to feel unwell at about 7miles thanks to the little bit of cold I've had over the past couple of days. Then really struggled from about 10.5miles through to end - stomach was not happy. Survived on Jelly Babies and some water from the last water station. It was a shame really, because I was on for a sub-90 time before I started to feel ill. But new PB, so mustn't grumble too much.
Updated finish time - Garmin has me at 1hr 32.41, but official time has me at 1hr 33.33, so gone with the latter. Not sure why the difference...
First ever half, so no idea what to expect. Guessing 1h36m ... but who knows!
Pleased with time in the heat (was too bloody hot for me). Really pleased with pacing as I came just within what I had set myself for this race. Great organisation apart from packed start before getting out onto road.
Great day & superbly organised event!
I struggled a bit between miles 9 & 11 bit gulped down some lucazade and got through the last couple of miles to give a pleasing first HM finish of 1:43
Extremely pleased with my time especially as it was hotter this year and that I have not trained as much due to injury!!
Nice race, hills got me though!
Anyone else think it was a bit hot out there today or was it just me?
My first Half on home ground, really enjoyed it and really pleased with my time
Bowl of porridge at 7 a.m. Carbo gel 20 mins before start, at 4 miles and 8 miles. Water after each carbo gel. Took Lucozade Sport drink round with me. Came 1513/4591. According to Dave's tables needed to average 8.07 to beat my personal best of 1.46.15, because he had bet on me to beat it. The plan was to run at 8.15 pace to the turn and then come back at 8.00 pace. We got to turn at 8.14 as planned. Felt pretty good although started to tire in last 2 miles. But kept pushing it. Splits for last 4 miles were very good but average pace just wouldn't come down to 8.07 until very end. So when I got it down to 8.06 thought I had done it, but I came up short, then realised that Garmin was showing total distance as 13.26 - not 13.1, so bit disappointed at that. Not sure I could have done it any faster. That is just my level of fitness at the moment. It was quite warm as well - certainly not ideal conditions. We beat our selves up a bit over our training afterwards. I think we should have done a couple of 15 milers before the day. We trained to Vicki's programme and she is 30 mins slower than us. Cals 1619. HR av 162 max 177. Laps 8.23, 7.59, 8.07, 8.12, 8.27, 8.11, 8.10, 8.10, 8.21, 7.28, 8.00, 8.02, 7.58
A personal worst today really struggled last few miles, it just was'nt my day, great organised race.
turned up late started race from the back. still please with end result..
disapointed with this one but my legs felt flat right from the start.
Looks a hard course and first time for a half marathan - not the best run up ill for two weeks prior managed two runs in the three weeks lead upto race!!!
Still did better than thought i would
Felt ok on the way out but was a bit anoyed about no mile markers on route. Felt tired on the way back and was getting a pain in my left foot due to over tighning of my lace.
Good race, flat, well organised. I'll be back !
