amazing, fantastic race. Got pretty hot - ran with Hendo for about 34 miles then mostly myself for the rest. Felt great till 44 when wheels came off and I mostly walked in from there. Lovely to see familiar faces (esp at checkpoints) and meet a few new Fetchies.
first race over half marathon - aimed to complete race but was hoping around 12hrs. terrible cramp after mile 30 for ages hindered this. brendan running last 11miles with me psychological boost. very warm and humid conditions. enjoyable all the same/mollie got a medal.

First ever ultra so not really sure what to expect! Training runs have been up to 35 miles on trails but that extra 18 miles seems quite daunting just now. Using this to get a time to work on in future years, anything under 12 hours I'll be happy with :) **UPDATE** Without doubt the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I did the first half in under 4 1/2 hours and was feeling pretty good but from about mile 35 on I felt terrible - had some really bad blisters and chafing which made every step painful. My pace dropped so much that my body temperature also started dropping so much so that I was shivering and my teeth were chattering, never experienced that during a run before! At that point I had to put on my jacket, gloves and hat to try to keep warm but still felt cold.
My goal before the start had been to get a sub-12 hour time but when I got half-way in the time I did I started thinking I could definitely aim for a sub-11, if not even a sub-10. Then I basically watched the sub-10 chance disappear... then the sub-11.... and then had to resign to the fact that I wasn't going to make the sub-12 either. Eventually finished in 12hr 21m.
At the time I was (predictably) vowing never to try anything like this again but even now I realise that I had a very bad experience but one that I will have learned an awful lot from. I'll come back stronger for the Devil O' The Highlands race in August.

Ran last year in 9hrs 44mins so would love to go a bit quicker but we'll see!
target was sub 9 and shave 20mins off last year....on target at beinglas farm but on the last leg the wheels came off with a bump. found it hard taking on food, water, drinks, gels and so dehydration was inevitable...felt sick and lightheaded but managed to walk / jog (thanks loondadfor the words off encouragement and well done) the last 12 miles with two lie down stops...those picnic tables are handy!! woke up at 2 this morning with a crisps and coca cola craving.....mmmm!!
Disappointed but glad to have finished and it was good to see so many fetchies on route and at the end...nice cheer at the farm :-)....and well done to all involved as you all done great...see you next year.....eh, no!!!
Thanks Ian and Lorraine for the lift back...dont think I could have jogged back as a warm down!!!!
