B Have been unwell since just after Horsham 10k so the plan today was to set out at 1.28 pace and see how I felt. If I felt good I would keep going, if not I would jog it out. By 2 miles I was frying - I hate the heat and it really affects performance. Had a little walk and thought about dropping out, but pushed on to water station at 3.5 miles - stilll cooking. Stopped for a leisurely drink and decided to jog it out. Finished in 1:34:50 and put it down to a solid training run. Heathfield RRC 1:29:28 1:30:29 1:34:50 70.69

Mrs Jigs (Luverlylegs) Very, very hot! I had decided to go for a PB but to review the situation if the heat was getting to me, on the warm up I felt very nauseous and this feeling didn't leave me, plus I had a stitch for most of the run, I didn't dare take my gel in case it had an adverse effect on my stomach. First 4 miles were going ok, by the time I reached the 5 mile marker I knew I couldn't maintain the pace so decided to back off, by mile 7 the heat was really getting to me and I wondered how on earth I would be able to finish, at mile 9 I felt like crying, just wanted it over with, wanted to walk but didn't, I stopped at 4 water stations to take on water, at mile 12 I saw a guy who was in trouble, wandering all over the road, a girl went to his aid, I thought about stopping too but noticed a guy sitting on a fence further up the road and decided to ask him to help which thankfully he did. tom_craggs Sub 80 attempt.**26th Rubbish, 7 weeks of no speed work or tempo and I paid the price. No massive loss of speed throughout race and I passed 10s in the second half, pased by no one the whole race, just generally not sharp enough...lots of work to do. On the plus side at least I've not lost too much pace since Bath Half and didn't really feel the heat. Nice to meet MTR. **Looks from the results like many people struggled in the heat as I finished 26th and beat a good few sub 2.50 marathon runners so not so bad. Konaboy Way too hot for me. Going OK up to 7miles then just got progressively more tired & slower. Real effort on the return from 10miles. Helped another runner crashed out on the verge & passed a lot of others walking. Will line this up again next February for PB attempt. Well done to the organisers for rearranging this event. Agent Orange Brutal race in the heat and maybe some after effects from last week's race. Felt quite confident and began very well hydrated. First four miles in a steady 7.30 pace, feeling comfortable. But then just started losing odd seconds. By 8 miles I knew not just that a PB was off but that my run of sub-1.40s would be coming to an end. And boy did it get tough then. Eased back and concentrated on keeping things steady to get to the end. Seemed like quite a few people were finding it hard - not very many overtook me as I grimly held on. Feel I earned the medal for determination if not speed today. And I have to note that two years ago this would have been a PB, so that gives a bit of context. wiglet That turned out harder than I'd expected - a PB by about 2 seconds, but still not getting under 1-40. Never mind, it was a nice day for it!

BrianK Many thanks to KEW for this opportunity to run a potential pb race. Update, Disaster.... All going to race plan, feeling good up to 8 miles, then my achilles tendon went tight and I couldn't run. I was aiming for 7:38 splits which would get me a pb of 1:40, however my actual splits were 7:38 - 7:08 - 7:05 - 7:26 - 7:37 - 7:44 - 8:34 - 7:50 - 11:47 - 11:46 - 8:48 - 9:52 - 10:29. At home with ice pack and going to rest for awhile, but I'll be back soon.

Ianmon Wokingham Half Marathon, May 24th 2009
Finished in 1 hour 44.46, 3 seconds down on Bracknell - worse than expected, but it was very hot (20C?). 3 gels, no real pains.
52/ 112 V45 Men (44.6%), 442/ 1062 (41.6%) of finishers so not bad overall, but worse than Bracknell 2 weeks before where I was in the top 1/3 finishers! First V45 man was 1:19:15, first senior man was 1:04:50 (record) Apparently over 1500 started... If so my performance is a lot better than 40%, in fact under 30%.
