dan dan After two races in a week, already the most running since France in the summer of 98, I was very apprehensive about doing this. Felt very sick beforeheand, aknowing it would be make or break.Gotta push forwards at some stage, but this was scary.

First 5 miles was in pain minimisation mode, thinking that old adage 'pain is only weakness leaving the body'.This helped buoy my soirits, but am sure the two nurofen at mile 2 helped too!

Anyway, so much for takling it gingerly right to the end, once I got to the bridge at mile 6, I just found myself easing up and getting faster and faster. Knowing there was the so-called hill to come between 6 1/2 and 7 1/2, I saved myself a bit, upping the cadence and just spinning easily.

From the corner of the street before the hill, I could see loads of people ahead and catchable! Easily caught loads of these, then the hill realy sorted out the men from the boys and girls, and I cruised past about 20 or more on that, and then kept the pace high down the otherside, catching even that club runner who I thought I had seen the last of ages ago!

Next came the young and fast and fit club runner between 8 1/2 and 9 miles who tried to take me , but was no match for team Chateau D'ax! Then, it was pick as many people off as you can in the last mile, upping the pace by about a minute and a half per mile compared to the first 6 miles.

WIth just a minute left and at the wrong end of the bridge from the finish line, Iknew I just had to get the sub 1.25 if poss. So, up the cadence more AND the stride length just a wee bit too and by the turn I had 10 seconds to do the last 50 meters.

Easy peasy, there was no depriving me of the target at this stage, although the mars bar jettisoning itself out the back pocket surely helped!

10 meters to go and the clock reading 10 seconds to go, i do believe I roared with delight!

Yay for l'il old me!

Now, that was the easy part: how many days/weeks till the injured knees recover? Ouch, ouch ouchity ouch. Unaffiliated 1:24:54 1:24:54 1:24:54 51.53
