As expected the recent tonsillitis meant I wasn't on top form. Had a steady run out though and after 11 days of inactivity, it was nice to stretch the legs.
Garmin stopped half way round grrrrr. Ran over line 1:50:20 so thats what I'll go with till results published. Good run as always, weather actually quite kind to us after terrible forcast. Was never gonna PB but was pretty close to last years 1:49:40 so can't complain
Got to go for PB again as running well. .........AAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH. Oh dear. Was meant to be 7.30 pace....went through 2 miles in 15 mins and felt terrible, nothing in legs. Treated as a training run but the last 5K was so hard...31 mins. :0(
Freezing rain, wind....couldn't get going
tough course - but still a pb!!!
Totally and utterly well chuffed with that. Finishing time was pretty much bang on my prediction, which was way better than I was expecting on the morning of the race, driving along on a cold, wet, icy morning thinking "do I really want to do this?". Had serious doubts about achieving my 2008 goal of a sub-90 time in those conditions, so wondered whether it was even worth entering. But a string of recent PBs gave me enough hope to give it a go, and I'm so glad I did. Having done this race last year, I was prepared for the killer last 4-5 miles, so I knew I had to make up as much time as possible on the mostly downhill first two thirds, without overdoing it and risking a blow-out. Managed a fairly consistent pace up to 15km at around 1h02, when I realised I really could do it. All I had to do was dig in for an uphill 6k in 27mins, to cross the line in a glorious 1h29.04.
5k splits: 20:47, 20:33, 20:57, 22:07
63rd out of 545
Good luck all. Hope to 'enjoy' my first half marathon. ...and did, (well, sort of).
Finished 56th this year and had a superb run there too, pressure off and just having a run at a quick pace after the latest come back time at Worksop the month before.
This will be half marathon number 16. First since July, not sure if I can remember how to run a half. Looking forward to seeing lots of ftechies there.
Really good course - was on for 1.40 until hills on last few miles got the better of me but very happy with 15 mins off PB for HM No. 2. No real pain in knee (until afterwards) - think the cold might have actually helped that..
PB by over 10 mins, 9.59 pace!!
Clowne, this was the coldest race day ever, we all huggled up at the start of the day the Social Club
