First time at Bath and looking forward to the race & the crowds .
Was hoping to get pb but after looking at comments on how slow the start can be, I am not so sure now.
Goodness me I pb'd! Tell you what though, I've screwed my legs up proper-like. Race report in blog.
Very poor race. Started off OK but seemed to fade quite quickly. Felt cr@p and tired very early on. Lots of excuses but no-one needs to hear them.
Paced Tom to sub-2; aiming for 1.55, missed it by 11 seconds (he was fading in the last mile)
They utterly cocked up the start, it was an hour late! The end was very crowded, gave up on trying to get a much-needed space blanket at the end.
first time at this distance!! Bit of a challenge ...determind to keep up training over winter months with club, at the gym and personal training sessions..training going well, did 11.5 miles in 1 hr 49 in at start of feb.
May be just taking this one easy - depends on Silverstone the week before. **update** The secret for PBing is obviously to stand around in the cold for an hour & and a half beforehand. Nice course, appaling organisation, great spectators.
Had a cold but amazingly did get a pb .The race itself was good but the waiting around in the cold and slopping around in gloop were bad news!!
This is now going to be one of my final training runs before Paris marathon 3 weeks later! Got a massive PB today! Knocked about 11 minutes off even with a dodgy foot!
Ran my first half (Bristol) Six months good training! endurance in the legs needed as was on for 2:25 at Bristol until Cramp got the better of my left calf.
Cardio fine no issues with the distance lung wise, wil be following a well thought out plan from 18 weeks out.
I never run very well at Bath (this will be my 4th) but I am optomistic that with the right training I will achieve my target of 1 hr 40
Well the delayed start did me no favours (although it did mean that it did not rain during the race) as I got my hydration all wrong and had to do a 'Paula' but actual running time was good. I went of at a moderate pace (for once) and was then able to finish the race strongly, first 10km was 49 mins. I missed out on a PB but overall was happy with my performance.
Well part from the crappy weather, VERY muddy runners village and start being delayed by 1 hour the race was good, weather cleared up by the time we started but was still pretty cold (arms were numb the whole time) but good conditions for running. Well OK I had a bad run, had stitch until about about 5 miles then had little energy and felt 'weak' after that until the end but I still took over 5 minutes off my previous PB plus ran a 10 mile PB too (1:03:35) and enjoyed having so many spectators on the course. My finish position was 237 out of 10054. Anyway I had a great time with SarahL and that really made my weekend...thank you Sarah
For the second race in row got prediction right to the second, maybe should lower predictions. Went okay not as easy as expected, lots of long straights into wind.
Quite happy with time - not dead flat and the delay and cold probably didn't help. Weather is beyond organiser's control - but it had been predicted for at least 3 days and I still don't know why the start was delayed. Tried to park at Lansdown P & R - gave up as probably no spaces but the queue for the bus (where were they!!) was horrendous. However found a car park near start and exit after race was easy. Finish was a melee - missed both drink and space blanket - and why isn't the T-shirt a "techy". Good race but the whole of Poultney bridge and Bath RFC area should be Competitors only - the steps from the bridge were too crowded. End of moan!
Woohoo! Huge PB - well chuffed especially after the chaos surrounding the start. Enjoyed the course - not sure if i'd bother to go again tho......
Did not finish. Managed about 7.5 miles before dropping out with knee injury.
Would like to beat my time of 2.20.55 but this would be a great task as recovering from op
10 secs off a pb - this I put down to training, running 3 miles each way to work carrying a backpack loaded with a copy of Runners World and the previous week's Sunday Times, or it could have been the best part of a family pack of Minstrels I scoffed the day before.....anyway, the delays and general faff at both ends were more than made up for by the fact that this is a good, flat, very well supported race in a great city with a top goodie bag (if you could lay your hands on one, of course....). However, the glimpse of the runner dressed in only (his wife's?) lime green leotard is still giving me nightmares.
Hard work... To say the least, not feeling 100 %, cold and flu. NICE !! but gave it a go, hard not to when you've put in the hard work trainig ! Only decided to run when I got there.. First 9/10 miles good and on track for sub 1 hr 35 mins, last3/4 miles hurt and finished feeling complete whacked... Look forward to next race when I feel 100%
First time for Bath Half. Looking forward to it. Heard theres a great atmosphere at this race. Not going to be flat out at this one. Just going to enjoy and to raise a bit of money for charity!
Very hard going, especially the last few miles. Paid for the lack of training due to injury.
Race Number 7620
May not do this again - poor organisation
Good race, but poor organization at start and finish.
Went off too fast blew up. Felt awful last four miles and the rest of the day. Can only get better
gonna be a challenge but would like to do it....
have to see how the training oes over the winter..
Hopefully will get under 1.50 but ?
Very cold and wet but still managed to get the 1.50 monkey off my back.
Great race, cold and wet at the start but a great course, loads of support.
Very sorry everyone who bet on me.
I'm afraid I've been down with a chest infection for 2 weeks so very reluctantly had to pull out of the half.
Very frustrating - just hope I can get back in shape in time for the London marathon
Real bad day. No energy, nothing left in the legs. Race delayed by 1 hour did no help either.
Considering the shambolic organisation, not least of all the hour start delay which left us cold and malnourished, I was delighted at running 1:53 in my first 'half' at the young age of 53. 1st 10k in 1hr then upped the pace. There must be life in the old legs yet.
Decided to do 5M before as was pouring with rain. Race started an hour late and I was freezing by the time it started.
First Half, beat my target of 1:35 just so well chuffed although set of far to fast for the first half. 10k split 41:42 (gun time).
Really pleased with time but weather didn't make for a pleasent race build up.
Bath half - first half marathon and despite the rain and 1 hour delay was a great race - mainly thanks to the spectators.
Enjoyble run despite being very tired / heavy-legged by the end.
Poor organisation at least meant the rain had stopped before the race started. Was averaging ~7:25 pace up until mile 8 when I ran out of puff a little - meaning over all I was back to pretty much as predicted.
Not sure yet whether i will be racing this or just using it as a training run.
Managed to get a late entry to this fast course so hopefully a big PB. Hopefully the conditions are good. Well, the conditions weren't the greatest, but the crowds were awesome and I ran comfortably so not a bad effort. Not sure if this counts as hitting my target :o)
Hoping for a sub 77min but might not happen as I appear to have been put in pen "B" at the moment rather than the sub-90 pen. Hopefully will get it sorted before the race as I want to run this one flat out to work out my marathon pace for London
Managed to get pen start sorted (had time to waste due to the delay so queued at the info desk - kind lady gave me a new number with an "A" on it)
Don't know where this performance came from!! The plan was for Sub 77 min ( 5:50 miles) but started out at 5:30 miles and just kept on going! PB'ed my 10k at the 10k split as well in 34:17. ( Which I only set at the Winchester 10k a few weeks ago)
37th place and came in just in front of the first lady
My first race, have right knee injury but chose to ignore it! No problems with organisation, arrived early for park and ride and only waited 5 minutes for the bus. The only negatives I have is that the runners village looked like a battlefield!also some of the marshalls/stewards were a bit rude,( and obviously the 1 hour delay was not brilliant.) But despite that enjoyed the experience and raised lots of money for charity.
Very poorly organised, heavy rain before race and over 1 hour delay at satrt, runners village very very muddy,2 lap course, wasn't impressed won't do this again
Went through 10K well (45.30 ish) but tired afterwards.
First race since getting injured during the Amsterdam marathon in Oct 07. Ran 5 minutes better than expected. New goal is go sub 1:30.
Recovering ITBS & little training.
Finish position 932
I really ought to train for these things!
Easy race. Running with friends.
cramped on the finishing straight which probably cost me 2 seconds. was really annoyed although it was a pb at the time. Finished 1836th
