Dowse This was my second year running and if anything I expected it to improve, but this was not the case. We arrived with plenty of time to spare only to join a 20 minute queue for the bag drop. The PA system wasn't working and, where as last year we were treated to motivational music from a DJ, this year we got a man in a yellow jacket shouting at us to get to the start line (which we would loved to have done were we not in the queue for the bag drop!) The change of start location meant a narrower, slower first half mile before we got to the ring road. Then it was just a constant string of small disappointments. Poorly placed mile markers in the park and queues for the isotonic drinks at mile 9. The finishers bags were poor quality and not preprepared (I had to make my own up). We were given large bottles of water at water stations when you really want small bottles and then one small bottle of water at the end when you really wanted a large bottle. None of the bottle tops had been removed. When we were getting changed we were asked to give up our foil blankets because they'd run out. It was a tough race and not made any easier by the poor organisation. On the flip side I did appreciate my congratulations text with chip time, the supporters were brilliant and the marshalls did a great job. Sorry to all those who bet on me, didn't quite make it even with a big sprint finish, you can spread the blame between me being rubbish and the race organisers. Go-KL Ran a strong but frustrating race to finish 21st overall. Frustrating in the sense that my legs felt rubbish for the first four miles, and once again felt too fresh at the end, but I only missed my PB by 15 seconds. With some proper training and a more dedicated race strategy I should crack that PB soon.
Good race very well organised and a bargain for the closed roads, medal at the end and notification of your results by text message. And I was interviewed twice for radio and once for the papers. I felt like a star! Grantham Running club 1:14:46 1:19:30 1:21:00 1:19:30 73.01

paulcoz Had a really good run with half marathons recently. I am looking to try and beat 1hr 40minutes which was my goal for the year. I am going to give it my all, although with back to back races recently not sure how I will do so I am going to predict a lower time at around the same s last year. phal Target race :o) I *WILL* RUN IT THIS YEAR!!!! But just for fun.... not going for a PB, just the enjoyment ?!?

enjoyed the run round with c-cat.... I'm sure we didn't talk all the way round.... honest.... bit disappointed by the start - not as much atmosphere as last year... think I preferred the old start and finish..... good course - now just need to run it with the legs at full fitness!!! pussy cat busy course, some narrow bits but the only bottle neck was the first mile or so. More hills than I remember and I live round here :-) Glad I did it as the support and marshalls were great - especially the cheerleaders in the University ground!!
