I was able to pace fellow Fetchie "darkhorse" to his first sub 4 & a PB by 21 mins - so mission accomplished, my 26th sub 4. was good to have company. the first half was the toughest it has ever been & the second half seemed easier than in past years.I broke out the wings for an airplane finish across the line - really enjoyed the day & the conditions were excellent. Medal reasonable, even if half runners got a gold (coloured) one - surely 26.2 deserve a more prestigious medal than 13.1 ? no t-shirt as too tight to pay & have drawers full already of race shirts.
HMMM Well pleased to finish this was hiller than Paris. I was going well for SUB 4 hrs when I had a pull in my leg at 14 slowed down so not to get myself badly injured. (Disappointed as I thought I may do better but hay ho these things happen bring on the training for Rome
I know that this time can be a realistic target although it is undulating and taking into account that when i set my pb of 4hrs 7mins three years ago I was also nearly two stones heavier. A pb is a cert but how much can I shed of that I am not sure. To be truthful, i am looking for a time around 3hrs 30mins - but would be happy to take anything of my pb. get betting on me - its worth a gamble
Plan to 8.5m/m jog round in preparation for Mallorca 5 weeks later.
Started off very slowly and dragged it back to just under 9m/miles but still a good LSR workout.
Whether it has done me any good or harm I'll find out in 5 weeks.
Will be my 2nd marathon. Did half last year and moving up this year. Will see what time is from Windermere before saying a pb on the way. ** UPDATE** Will surely be a pb as my time for Windermere was 4.25 with quad problems. Training going well and looking forward to pb at my home town event.
**UPDATE** All looked good till sun came out and set me on fire. Really slowed me down over last 6 mile. Was looking at 4hr 5 mins before sun shone but not upset. Pleased with result overall.
Debut at this distance. Excited but nervous!
Happy with the time etc - a little disappointed with how the last 3 miles went, but thats probably just inexperience for getting to 22 miles quicker than I expected
First ever marathon completed!!! Warm sunshine (which I do not like) did not help so very pleased with this particularly as I felt pretty good and ran within myself. I am now a marathoner so very pleased!
Looking forward to this one, ran it a few years ago but after a few injuries didn't do the course justice.
Had a decent run - was pretty well on target right through to the 24 mile mark but started to struggle over the last couple of miles. Thankfully, didn't drop off too much and had a reasonable cushion to get under 3hrs. Very well supported over the first 13 miles and well organised (apart for the car parking).
ran without walking for 3 hours(18 miles)
Then guts got the better of me, and faded rather in the last 8 miiles
a bit dispapointed, but I did have to work hard for that
finally conmmitted to a marathon this year, will hopefully break the 4 hour barrier. incompetence on my part means this comment is featured elsewhere on the page. sorry
Ok - Have entered my first Marathon. Excited but nervous - would like to in under 4 1/2 hours
Update: What a great day really enjoyed it and really pleased with my time.
This is my first marathon. Have completed 3 half marathons with a best so far of 1hr 38 mins, so hoping for under 4 hours (maybe a bit ambitious but you never know!!).
Under 4 hours at last. Such a weight off my shoulders!!
Have put down 3:45 but will be happy to finish under 4:00 hours - will be my first race at this distance
Crowded first half, which did stop you going off too fast, but you do lose out overall. Second half flat, and more rural
a race well worth doing, nice atmosphere, plenty of sport drinks/ water stops,
Watch time: This run was harder than I thought it would be lots of climbs in the first half and warm sunshine in the second. I did a bit more walking than I would have liked, but as this is the first time I have run two marathon on consecutive weekends I am happy with the result.
Slowly But Shirley
YAYYYY!!! PB by nearly 2 hours!! Enjoyed the course much more than I expected to. Ran the first half in 2:11 and slowed significantly in the second half (to a kind of combined stumble/walk), especially when the sun came out in force!! I'll be back next year but might 'treat' myself to the Half rather than the full instead - it was oh so tempting to follow the half marathon finishers I have to admit!! No complaints about the full here though and it helped me to put my mind at rest re finish time, so I loved it!!
Hoping for sub 4 - 4 and a bit if things dont go according to plan - Post race update chip time 03:59:31 - Gun time of 04:02:50 - Position 536
chip time : 3:11:20
Wow what a race ! So much for aiming for under 3hrs 30 min for my first marathon, would of gone sub 3hrs if it wasn't for terrible cramp inthe last mile. Achieved p/b's for 10mile and 1/2 marathon distance felt so strong from 22 mile plus, bring on the next one !!!!
Really nice , well organised race. Struggled in the sun in the second half. My god I suffered out there today.
Injured coming into the race, and a different set of injuries coming out. Got a bit warm in the second half
I was poo. Set off at sensible pace, but it felt harder than it should have. Got progressively more disastrous during second half. Maybe I just wasn't 100% fit. Back to the drawing board for Hastings training.
My first marathon not to sure what time to expect a little bit nervous about it. training is going ok but feel as though I have nothing left after my 20 mile long runs at 9.30 a mile and there will be another 6 mile to do.
Ran it in just under 4 hours by the skin of my teeth, struggled badly at the end and it hurt plenty but enjoyed the race overall and very thankful to the organisers for plenty of fluid and gels.
Urrgh. Bad day at the office!
objective : just want to get around and do the distance
did just that and lovveed it! the weather was perfect
I liked this race as it took you all the way around the city and out into rural surroundings for second half - hilly but perfect for my first marathon race.
:)doh my results are in the half and not the full
Hit the wall!!!

That would be totally gutting after all these months of training and psyching up!
