connelld Worked really hard on this run. I thought I had started off too fast, but decided to try and keep pace. First lap dragged although the 2 Irvine lads kept me entertained as they got by me. Finally I tried to keep pace and just managed to take them on the steep hill. I could see Ayr's Laurence most of the time in front of me but daviec looked like he was in catching distance. I took him in the second half of the race, but it was only for a short time as he got me in the steep hill. Kept on his back, but I couldn't catch him up and ended 10 seconds behind him. However, i'm still one of the few who likes this course and I just managed to help Killie team get the silver. Kilmarnock Harriers & AC, Scottish Veteran Harriers Club 39:50 42:38 59.93
daviec First attempt at XC so a home race was handy. 3 laps of the fields at the back of Girvan. Junior races had been held all morning so the ground was fairly churned up and heavy going. Senior race was billed as 9k, but my garmin has it at just under 10k at 6.11 miles. First lap was hard going and I probably went off to hard at the start, but settled onto my pace quickly. Each lap had 4 major hills plus your usual undulations. I was glad I'd picked up a pair of spikes for the race. I lost two places early on but managed to hold position after that. Conneld passed me half way through the third lap and I had to dig in to stay on his shoulder. On the 2nd hill I made a push towards the top to pass him again which I managed and tried to keep it going over the crest which had me wretching and very close to throwing up. I managed to push on from there and the third and fourth hills felt very hard. It's a big downhill for the finish and I just let go and sprinted home. 13th overall, third Girvan runner and a bronze medal for third placed team. Steve Wylie from Girvan won the race. Irvine took the team prize, Killie 2nd, and Girvan 3rd. Carnegie Harriers 42:28 59.62
Gokeith ran a decent race today-5th overall and 1st M40 started off steady on 1st lap and let the fast starters do their stuff then worked passed a few on tail end of 1st lap to move into 5th and gradually pulled away, finished strong on a tough course-REAL cross country. 1st real race for a few months so v happy Kilmarnock Harriers & AC, Loudoun Runners AC 37:58 69.24
