Fantastically organised and amazingly tough cross-country race through the beautiful Herts and Essex countryside. We got carried away in the first few miles by the sight of only five runners in front of us, but inevitably paid for our over-confidence in the second half. I temporarily lost the will to run just before the final checkpoint, but we rallied to a slow dawdle, and in the sprint for the line my shuffle proved just enough to beat Gavin's leisurely stroll.
It was meant to be "an enjoyable LSR", instead we found ourselves in the top 20 trying to maintain our position. The X FD instruction took its toll as my mud-clogged boots struggled to raise off the ground during the last 5 miles. The freezing river was an unwelcome surprise. Excellent refreshments at the check points and at the finish. 20th position was impressive, 4:34 wasn't.
Mud, mud, glorious fecking mud! ;-)
running with 1kg of mud on each foot was a new experience
wow !
What a great event (yes, event, not race!) Nearly 6 hours of trail and mud with a full ultra pack, including fording a flooded, freezing river :-) Came in equal 50th with Kinky. Thoroughly recommended!
