UPDATE - This race had the best start ever, a mad dash across the grass to a short hill then tight course. It was like carnival just more colourful! great banter too. Enjoyed second lap as got into running despite actually slowing. The vertical hill (up it 3 times) was a real test and blew pace for 200-300 meters after. On last night think I was still recovering from it at the finish. great day out. Watford Joggers, Fitstuff Run Club 50:00 46:44 58.99
Blister That was the toughest XC I have ever done. I'm glad it wasn't actually 12k because I don't think I'd have finished if it was. I felt OK before the start but after warming up legs felt tired and didn't feel great. The start was awesome but I went off a bit quick and died badly after about half a lap, I got stitch too (just under my chest on my right side) for the rest of the race which really didn't help. I really struggled to get any sort of pace going after that and was constantly being over taken throughout the race, including by Dave who I beat in the Midlands XC by about 30 secs last month. I wonder if maybe I just hadn't rested enough before hand, I tapered well but was still tired and maybe should have taken a few more days off. Some how managed to finish 478th out of 1244 which I can't complain with since my aim was to finish in the top half. Next year I will do a lot better. TeamBath AC, Somer AC, Walton AC 41:38 63.81

DANBERT The National 'as ever' was a brilliant all round experience. This year the course wasn’t over parkland as is usually the case but was run on the side of a hill with the terrain being mainly meadow and pasture land. The start and early part of the course was predominantly flat or downhill and continued that way until the bottom part of the second field. There was then a climb that brought us back up to the main field where the finish was situated. On the first of the 3 laps I ran within myself not panicking too much about getting past the slower runners. After the first lap the field split up a little bit and I found that i was moving through the field quite nicely. At this point I was pleased with how I was running and felt as though my race plan was coming together. At the start of the third lap however, I started to lose a few places and most disappointingly as we approached the hill for the third time I was unable to respond when a club mate passed me. I was disappointed at this point but undeterred I gritted my teeth and put everything in to finishing. Overall although I disappointed with my race I have to say that you can only give what you've got in you on the day and I did my best. Rochdale Harriers & AC 50:40 55.71

Muds Time depends on. Mud, hills, congestion, attitude, training, taper, journey. So nothing new then!! Well a short course produces a 'fast' time. So what!! see my blog omn PB's!! Watford Joggers 49:00 43:50 67.63
mxhornet Not sure how legs will be 6 days after a 35 miler, so no prediction

Update - legs ok, caught in traffic early and could run as fast as I'd liked but generally moved through steadily until last 400 metres or so where I moved through very quickly :) Bure Valley Harriers 47:27 60.94
Nightjar Suspect I might be a bit out classed! Bedford Harriers AC, LDWA
SPKoF good run and didnt get lapped by the leaders - just! distance only 6.25 rather than 7.45 as advertised Long Eaton Running Club 45:12 59.11
Strider Good race. Nice course. Pretty quick. Weather was also good. Well organised. Looking forward to next year. Hercules Wimbledon AC 39:26 67.47
Team Win The race was well short of the advertised distance. I had a bad start then struggled to make my way through the field and pace myself ended up with far too much left. Came 560th out of 1250ish in 42.48. Shrewsbury AC 42:48 62.07
Trehis The distance for this race was short by nearly a mile, should have been 12k but was closer to 10k with my Garmin recording 6.4 mile.
The race and course was spectacular, a full x/country course with perfect consistency of mud and good tough hills, no roads or paths to cross.
I finished in 776th place out of 1,200 plus, my worst position in any race since London marathon 2003 and I do not think I have ever placed in the second half of a race other than on a track where there are usually less than 10 runners. Unaffiliated 45:49 63.12
Wally Only measured 6.33 miles on GPS but that was far enough! Good experience though. Stourbridge RC 48:07 55.23
