Bit of a struggle this one. But I made it! Reallly good race and a great trip down memory lane for me.
Aimed to do negative splits, and did, given the flat downhill nature of the second half it really paid off and even managed a sprint finish.
Gutted. Wanted a 1:42, or 1:47 at the very worst. All going well until 9 miles and then the wheels came off. To draw on the positives I was 12mins faster than last year, and I still went sub 1:50 after 7 weeks without a training run. Good to meet RooA and Santy, some welcome support at 5/7 miles. The negatives, my left foot is very sore again and I fear the worst. Will have to see how I feel tomorrow.
My 1st half marathon so the objective is to get round
Seems to be a flatish route considering it's Sheffield.
My third half-marathon, and first serious attempt at sub-90 mins. Pre-race nerves (or something) resulted in a rubbish night's sleep. Warming up before the race I felt awful, so realistically 90 mins was never going to happen - that'll have to wait another 3 weeks. Still, I had a PB to beat, which I did by a full minute, maintaining a fairly steady 7-min pace all the way to about mile 11 (despite forgetting to turn the Garmin autolap feature on), then gritted my teeth for the last 2.1. Fairly satisfied with the result.
5k splits: 21:09, 21:59, 21:22, 22:21
Cool and drizzly - ideal weather for running! Tried to start at a steady pace instead of haring off and other than flagging alittle at 11 miles pretty pleased with everything. Dipped under 1:25 for the first time so really pleased with my time and fingers crossed means things should look good for the Edinburgh Marathon next month and a possible sub 3hr finish, just need to get stuck into the training between now and the end of may.
First time at Sheffield. Enjoyed the race but struggled for the last 5 miles - lack of energy meant I plodded home.
Did this last year - really enjoyed it. Should do around 1:45, may have a crack at PB if I feel good......CALL THE COPS..........PB BY OVER 2 MINS. KICKED SOME ASS. LOVED IT.
Final time could be quicker, ensure of chip time yet, but definately a PB! What a great race, wonderful to start and finish in the Don Valley Stadium and the behind the scenes facilities were the best i've seen at a race yet. The course was just right, a mixture of hills and flat and just when it got challenging, up to the half way loop, the crowds came out in force, cheering everyone on. Will definately do this race again.
Great start, but didn't take on enough water in race and struggled from 9-12 miles
2 weeks after FLM so could be a bit of a recovery run Update: 1:52:07 nice run as always but definetly need to get bottles on the drink stations - Come on Sheffield get with the program!!
Ecclesall road was special as always, runners on both sidea of the road, spectators on both sides, live band! best part of race, apart from crossing the finish line of course
See you next year!!
You know I said it would definitely not be a PB. Well conditions were so perfect for me that it seemed churlish not to at least have a crack.
That was a wonderfully organised race with just the right amount of challenge and variety to keep me going. Thanks to the Fetchies on the course for cheering me on as well.
A p.b great race
Everything went to plan - all positives and no issues. Great to have the stadium finish. Atmosphere excellent and course predominantly flat. Nice solid medal as well...!
Quite a tough race, but enjoyable.
Rats! No excuses. Perfect conditions albeit a bit soggy. Died at 11 and 12. Otherwise it would have been a stormer.
Missed PB by just over a minute. Sorry to anyone who bet on me!
Good event. Bit boring at 1-3 and 10-13 miles but going through town is a hoot.
And a nice medal for your effort!
Well-organised and well-supported race, but missed my PB by a minute - sorry if you bet on me!
104th place 6th V45, fairly pleased with the time, however a bit unhappy with some of my pacing.... a bit too fast a the start, and hit a bad patch at about 12-12.5 miles.
Quite happy with the time but I felt like I was hanging on for the last 10 miles! Good day for racing and good turnout
Great race - will be back next year and hopefully under 2hrs
Well this is a tricky one would love to do sub 1;50 but with a marathon the following sat should be taking it easy .we shall see!
A novice where hills are concerned, thought I'd give Steel City a try!
Fabulous race for me, felt as though I would not get under 1.30 for much of the race, so very pleased. Full details on my blog.
Fantastic race. Those downhill sections really made for a fast time. Thought they could have thrown in a T shirt though.
great race greatsupport from sheffield.
Cool Calm and a bit of drizzle certainly did not expect a pb and also got the best race photo I have ever seen of myself actually looking fit and smiling.
woke up on sunday morning with stinkin cold, no warning, rained heavy all the way thru race. took it easy and planned to kick on at devonshire street mbut made mistake of waiting till peace gardens to starting racing. if well would have pissed prediction. last 4mile in 23min shows this.
Ran with Helena.
Legs felt tired after London 2 weeks earlier...but turned in a PB for this year ! Uphill out, mostly downhill back.
my perfect day for running, cool & cloudy. felt slow all the way round but actually had some energy left for the 2nd half. really pleased with the time.
First and so far only half... pace calculators indicated that 1:30 should be achievable based on my 10K PB... worked out I needed 6:51/mile to achieve this.
First mile 6:30 - this always happens - slowed a bit - found out how difficult it was to look at mile marker 'x' and do 7x (minutes) - 9x (seconds) in my head before I passed it! Realised by mile 11 or so that I was probably going to be OK...
