Treated as a training run so ran to heart rate - kept under 150 all the way around until the end when I put a bit of effort into it.
Not happy with this. Should have been quicker, was well on for a good time up to 10 miles and then I faded away. No good reasons, I was cr@p.
Forecast looks like HOT, therefore I have zero chance of a PB because I really can't run in the heat. If it's cool enough I will be going for it though. **UPDATE** Over 4 mins PB, unofficial time, not sure my Garmin time is right! Report to follow
My first half, chuffed to bits with the time as I was anticipating 2.30. Glanced at my watch at 2.18ish as the finish came properly into view and figured that a good sprint might get me home in under 2.20 - which it did!! Don't think I've EVER run as fast as that last part - don't know where it came from, but I'm over the moon
But soup...what was that about? I really wanted to trail that back to the park & ride, didn't I!
On for a 2:25 until cramp on mile 10.
Nailed on PB - or at least stuck on with very strong sellotape. **Update** Small PB but thought I would do a lot better. Met & was overtaken by a friendly fellow fetch between 5 & 6 miles (didn't catch his name), he then zipped off at about warp factor 3 - or so it seemed to me!!
Legs felt really tired at 8 miles.
Managed to keep going by walking through the feed stations.
However thought a goody bag containing nothing but a tin of soup would be ideal to habd to at the end of a Half Marathon should be shot!
Impossible is Nothing
Bit of a cold with a week to go, but that should be OK. PBs for 5k, 8k, 10k in last few weeks should finally be a good half-marathon if I don't stuff it up again. Might be hot according to forecast so may settle for 1:27. **UPDATE** A great race - everything came right and I ran comfortably much faster than I had been hoping for. Can't believe I ran so fast (for me!)! 5580 betting points were a great motivation - thanks all. Weather nice and cool and cloudy, course pretty flat, hydration etc worked well. Race was poorly oragnised in my opinion, but maybe they struggle with the size of it. Result 134th out of 8433 (chip position).
Sorry to those who bet. Didin't race hard due to foot niggle and not wanting to be injured before the marathon.
I'm ready!! Barring picking up an injury this week I should get a PB - the last half marathon I did was the Wyre Forest (v.hilly and muddy). Bet away ... UPDATE: Last 3 miles were very tough. Garmin went beserk and registered 3800ft of climbing due to Avon Gorge and city centre. And another thing, where was my Mars Bar eh?!. Beat the PB but clearly started in totally the wrong group as my gun position was 3849 but chip position was 3235 and I was overtaking the whole way round.
A good PB so Im very pleased. Good organization, improved route and coolish weather for most of the race.
Training is going OK - could maybe have done with some more long runs, but should manage sub- 1h 25m quite comfortably. Definitely under 1h 30m so worth a punt!
Massive PB - thanks to all you punters (6400 points worth).
Paced the race perfectly with a good finish to get within 1 sec of my target time!
Fortunately not too hot in the morning
Was pleased with time as I haven't ran that distance in a road race situation for ages. (Shipton and Race the Train both stop/start). Disappointed with event. Nowhere near the atmosphere there used to be. Wont do this again i don't think.
went really well, thought my knee wouold play up but if was fine.
Would be happy with something between 2 and 2:15. The closer to 2 the better!
UPDATE: not feeling prepared at all ... sorry everyone who's bet, i think you may be disappointed. But I'll give it my best shot, anyway. Maybe 2:25 is more realistic....
woo-hooo!! Not as quick as I would have liked, but given lack of training, I am DELIGHTED!! and I really enjoyed it, too!
Time per my watch, waiting for Chip time to be comfirmed on website
Be warned potential betters this could go horrible wrong!
Sorry to everybody who lost their race credits!! It was all going good until mile 10 and then I lost it. Maybe next week...
Struggled a bit, still suffering from a bad cold, but time better than expected.
I wanted to stop within the first 0.1 mile and still had 13M to go - a symptom of overtraining????
Cobble stones most annoying, bad blisters by mile 10
It just wasn't to be on this day. Hopefully I'll get things working by Cardiff
Congested first mile, but hit a good pace along the Portway. Through 8 miles in ~57mins. Slowed considerable 8-10 miles, hated the cobbles around Queens Square, but finished ok and beat Elvis and the Banana.
Idea conditions. Ran sub 80min pace for first 10 miles then slowed on the last 3 miles (cobbles and undulations). Raced very hard and just got under 81. Finished inside top 100. Result!!
Ran after ITB problem which hit me at about 11 miles. Considering all time was a result.
Comfortable. Getting faster in later miles.
Really enjoyed this half. My aim was to knock a couple fo minutes off my pb, but managed 3mins off.
Favourite race so far (-:
good race but a bit congested at the start
Felt good until the pebbly bit around Queens Square. That was quite painful and really had to slow down. Before then, I was well on target for a sub-2hour HM, so I was disappointed with the ending... Never mind, maybe next time...
Had injured my calf muscle two weeks before and it 'popped' on the first mile, struggled through to the end though!!
Finished in 2273rd place. remember it was a hot day
