Dunno where it came from, but that was a personal best - must have been the support.

The people of Portsmouth also deserve medals, goodie bags and space blankets, for coming out in large numbers to support the runners in the horizontal rain (which seems a regular feature of the Southsea micro-climate).
Thanks also to everybody at The Apsley House for the food, beer, shelter, warmth and a unique sequence of songs on the jukebox (Bachelor Boy, Stairway to Heaven, Nessun Dorma finished off with Vindaloo.....(indeed, none shall sleep...).
See you next year.
Hills of Death (HOD)
Changed prediction from silly sub 70 to achievable sub 75. PB by 2mins GSR best by over 5 mins. Quite pleased however I lost HOD V Hendo II I didn't even see him past me. No excuses was going well 38 at turn around slowed a little wind got me on the front, didn't it get us all. Nice day
Hendo
Wet & wild. Will blog a report I am sure.
sanddancer
Pulled out through injury.
Cormorant
Well, I told myself before this race, it couldn't be as wet as last year.So of course the rain and wind were constant: the last two, head-down miles along the Southsea seafront were like fighting your way across the cabin to shut a porthole in a storm. Great event though. As for my run: slower than last year but another advert for what you can get away with without doing any proper training.
Rach E
Absolutely ecstatic with my time today. I was slower than I'd ideally wished for, but given the wind (it actually blew me backwards mid-stride in mile 8-9) I am very very happy (the elites I spoke to afterwards were all 2-3 mins behind what they hoped for). Mile splits: 5:47 (lol); 5:56; 6:10; 6:00; 6:11; 6:21; 6:12; 6:21; 6:53 (ouch the wind!); 6:40. 5k: 18:15; 5 mile: 30:00; 10k: 37:42 (new pb!!). It was a fantastic experience to run as an "elite", and really well done to felixs who put in a fantastic age category performance.
Gobi
As always it will depend on conditions. Gutted to be honest. First time ever I think I have been beaten by the weather. The full report will be in my blog.
Blister
I was so annoyed today because I knew that I was capable of running under 63 minutes...but that bloody 31mph wind... I went through 5K in 19:06 (1 second quicker than my PB last year), 5 miles in 31:04 (PB by 1:32) and 10K in 38:50 (PB by 12 seconds) and still felt strong despite the fact I had stitch after the first mile! Started picking up the pace a bit and felt relatively good until just after 8 miles and then I went around the bend to the sea front and WHAM! hit the wind. But it is still a PB by 2:30 in worse conditions so I can't really complain with my performance. According to the results I finished 144th out of 11481 including the elite men and women. Enjoyed meeting loads of new Fetchies and catching up with others I already knew, would have liked to have stayed longer in the pub but went for some food.
TomM
Hoping for a better time this year, but that depends on the weather.
Update: I had the bright idea of dropping down from the White to the Green start to run with two club mates who are a similar pace. The result speaks for itself. Woohoo!
GAZGIB
After a dissapointing 1:29 2 weeks before I can only really hope for 1:25. I did 1:12 in 2005 and 1:26 in 2006. **RESULT** Felt great all the way round, my lace came undone at 9m and totally lost my rythem after I stopped to tie it up but very pleased overall.
Konaboy
I'm going for it! Did 10m split at 1:14:xx at Wokingham half in Feb & feel good for PB on this super flat course. UPDATE: Bit disappointed with result. Felt I pushed pretty hard up to 8miles then running into the gale & rain for the last 2 miles took at least 2mins out of me. Also started near back of the Orange wave so for 1st 3miles had to work hard weaving in & out of runners. I've changed my mind wrt potential for PBing on this course due to congestion (unless at the front) & the headwind on the seafront (which I think even on a slightly breezy day will be hardwork). Nevertheless it was a good day out esp. the post-race beers.
Bananaman
Apologies to the few who bet on me but I decided to start right at the back of last wave. I t was just far to conjested and gave up the chase very quickly and just tried to enjoy the day. What is it with Portsmouth, wind and rain? Met John 66 at the start.
TheBeetroot
Sorry to all who bet on me, I'm gutted about the 4 secs :-( Got a cold 2 days before the race and literally didn't sleep a wink the night before with the cough and sore throat. Ran anyway as it wasn't on my chest, and was on for a 4 min PB at 8 miles till the last 2 miles when my legs died and I could only manage 13.5 min miles into the wind - running all the way, although I wouldn't have been much slower walking! Speeded up at 800m to go and managed a sort of desperate sprint at 200 as I realised how close I was to my PB, and was just about dead on my feet at the line. My chip had to be removed for me as I was too tired to bend down! 30 min scalding hot shower back at the hotel did nothing to warm me up, too cold to even shiver. Hardest medal I have ever earned. Of course I am going to do it again next year!
Diogenes
Yay! PB by almost 8 minuites and 10 minutes better than GSR 2006. Race went totally to plan and felt good. Fuller report to follow in blog
kink bunny
WINDY VERY WINDY! with out the wind i think i'd have got my PB grrr weather
KinkyS
Hideous weather for the last couple of miles and lost at least a minute or two...proper report to come :-)
Max71
First ran this last year and had an absolute blast. Perfect weather for me in 2006, here's hoping that 2007 is just as wet and windy.
Footpad
I hurt and ache. The last mile on the seafront was HORRID! But I have a nice shiny PB!! Woot!
FaeryImp
All was kind of peachy, even with the weather. Then it all happened....stitch,controlled it just;legs turned to lead and stomach cramped up big time.I remember very little after that apart from little person in head saying"for crying out loud, just keep going".That was HELL I can tell you! Thing is,and I really do not know how it happened,I actually came in quicker that last year.Thinks I now have tum-bug..yuk!
dungey2002
Difficult with high winds and rain in last two miles. Knee pain at 3 miles onwards.
Making_Tracks
95 mins - 10 miles.... oh well, nice cool pint at the end. See you at the Jolly Sailor.

I really enjoyed the race today despite the 'orrible weather. Great to see so many Fetchies, both old faces and new.

Happy with my time (Garmin, will up date with chip later) as this is not that far off my half marathon PB.
SuperCaz
Thanks for the support at the last mile Fetchites - even though I wasn't wearing a Fetch T-shirt!
Mauja
10k split - 56:00
Slimster
Lost at least a minute after the start weaving through the slower runners in the 1st mile, weather was crap but expected, always rains and always windy @ the coast in October. 1st time over 10miles therefore always guaranteed a PB. Will try it again next year.
topcorner
NO chance of a PB here. will be pacing Char for this one. Looking forward to a pint afterwards though!
blue (pete)
I must remember to take my timing chip this year and buy the family better waterproof clothing.

Garmin time result, about a minute solwer than last year but that's cool. Hated 'THAT' wind but hey ho!
SteveT
Like everyone else that last 2 miles was hell, but other than that I am reasonably happy. Splits were 6.06, 6.01, 6.14, 6.08, 6.15, 6.18, 6.10, 6.19, 6.59, 6.45
eMpTy
Wasn't sure how the legs would be after Toronto marathon a month ago. Weather as not conducive to fast run due to the rain and strong winds. Aiming at 70 min at 8 miles bang on schedule but the last two were into a strong headwind along the sea front and pace dropped to 7.50 & 7.40 pace so lost opportunity to hit sub 70.
The Wizard
A great race even though it was wet and windy. The support around the course was outstanding. The event was well organised. Managed a PB which I was delighted with. I will certainly be back next year.
Pegg
Raining, windy...found it really tough to find a rhythm and struggled through miles 3&4. Miles 5&6 seemed never ending but the support was fantastic. Then with four miles to go I started to enjoy myself - despite the evil headwind and lashing rain through the last 1.5miles. Very excited that I got a new pb!
kwala
walked it due to injury - still, on for a PB next 10 miler I do!!

6th year in a row, traditional as Christmas...oh dear, I hoped for a better time, great race though, support and music especially as we hit the final straight was fantastic...
chumleywarner
A PB!! the weather was rainy, horrible, and from mile 8, driving winds as well!
Race position 303 in mens/ 335 overall of a field of 11000
roz
Felt tough going and didn't have much left at end but good experience even with the wind and rain!
BenDy
Still struggling with an iffy hamstring. All I'm looking for is a finish!!! ***UPDATE*** Despite the dredful weather, a stinking cold & the event transport from Victoria station arriving late I made it round in just yunder 88 mins. I should have been pleased but I felt so bloody awful I really didn't care!!!
ashley1_scott
just going for a sub 2 hour would really be nice
DIY Diva
Don't know how congested this is going to be to make any attempt to PB. Will see how it goes and possibly just take it easy and enjoy it. UPDATE What a brill race. Loved how you could see fellow fetchies going the other way. Saw John66, Kitty, Boo, Tarange, + 2 others. Ran with Footpad for the first mile. Saw BB after. PBertie in the traffic jam there. and last but not least STUMPY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN THAT WEATHER XXX

Race # 2865

Came 297th in my Category - as I was in Elite class this means I was 297th overall????

2 secs faster than last year. Shame about the shite weather - I reckon without the hideous wind, I would have done 1:06:00 ish.
Alex B
Going for a PB here. 3 more months training should do it!
*update* 26th August: 3 weeks without running due to further injury. Chance of a PB now getting slim as won't be training properly till after holiday, leaving me with 7 weeks to get race fit.

That was one tough race. Was on about 7.40 pace till the last 2 miles; as expected, the headwind was something wicked. Probably lost 1-2mins in the final 1.5 miles, but still managed a PB, so very happy.
Berni
Bloody awful weather, got a fastish start but nearly came a cropper when somebody caught my heel. Running into the wind at the start was a bit off putting but just had to get on with it, part of the challenge. Got through the 10K mark in 41:20ish, faster than I've ever run a 10K. The run in (last 2 miles) was hard work but I had a PB in my sights and I wasn't going to let it go, felt really good crossing the line, chuffed as hell, a PB the day after my 55th birthday.
Sid
Left calf hurting from 6 miles. Stuck to my race plan - 9 min miles and finished in 90 mins. Now I must work on getting this calf sorted so I can run as fast as I can instead of holding back....
godders83
last 2 miles were hard but im well happy with my time!
Lizzybagwash
I would like to do this in 1 hour 45mins training has been really hard since my ankle injury
Yeppie did do it in 1 hour 45 PB at 10k 1 hour 4min 2min quicker. Tthe last 2miles when you turn that corner on the sea front the wind and rain just hit me and my breathing was all over the place even my inhailer did not help
WineRunner52
Missed prediction by 2 secs. Was expecting nasty weather - and wasn't disappointed !! - and I wasn't disappointed with my time = 650 points. Despite weather enjoyed the race - but not exiting the car park - 2 hours + 30 mins to drive 2 miles to Motorway.
Bob!
1.21.10 last year, still can't believe I ran 10 miles at just over 8 minute mile pace. This years will be just 3 weeks after Loch Ness Marathon, so I don't know what shape I'll be in!
Crouchie
Took off from the start a lil too fast and started having breathing problems between 1 and 3miles nearly pulled out of the race, hung back and managed to get into my own pace after 3miles, last 2 though finished me off running into the headwind. took me 3hrs to get outa Portsmouth and a further 2hrs 20mins to get home did anyone else have this problem
Shortstop:o)
Wicked race with a tough 2mile wind & rain along the seafront at the end!
fleety
splits 7.35, 7.41, 7.42,7.48,7.54,7.20 7.20, 7.58,7.39 117.56
Coxy Apple
Will be first race after Budapest marathon and 3 weeks holiday.
Dorset Roger
Wet, windy, last 2 miles were into a wind off the sea and sheeting rain ... horrible! Pleased with the result though as 6 minutes faster than predicted, though 10 minutes slower than PB.
Legless
A PB by 19.01 mins

Happy Happy happy

last 2m were the hardest I have ever run
felixs
Really enjoyed the race, but afraid to admit I was last on the Elite start, but, I was first Vet45 overall so not all bad :0).
Felt strong and on for a Pb, till the last two miles.
Sorry AGAIN to all the people who bet.
SuperSooks
Great race as always, am pleased I got a PB despite the weather, though I didn't really notice the wind until the last two miles when it was so very strong into our faces which meant that keeping running at anywhere near the same pace as the first 8 miles was impossible!
richyphil
This is my 'home' race..I live within a fw mins easy jog og the start line..was hoping for a 58mins but ankle injury may stop that idea..we'll see..
UPDATE - tough day - very windy so I guess happy overall with time...feeling good at 8 miles until turned into wind which knocked all strength out of legs
Hairy Legs
Don't remember miles 8 to 10 having ever been so hard in all the years I have running this race!! Enojyed the event but @ £30 it's expensive for what it is.
Puffing Bertie
Missed my PB by 0.03 sec Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, it was as usual a great race and although i knew what the last 2 miles would be like from past experience, they still wiped me out. One day it will be sunny and NO wind (in my dreams!)
JEJ
10km in 32:53, but got blown backwards for those last 2 miles! 8M was 42:20 - so pace was spot on up until the dreaded turn-around point.
Yeti
Who ordered wind and horizontal rain? Damned hard work but pleased with result for my first ever race, and the first time I've run non-stop past 7.5 miles. And it hasn't put me off either!
GrayBay
10km split - 00:52:12
Race position - 3347
5hep
I know what the last two miles are like but they still wiped me out!
rug
Not very confident about this one as haven't run that much since GNR and two training runs over the last week have not gone well. Never mind, I'll do my best!

A good race, despite the weather!! Did better than I expected!
Delia
Under 2 hours would be a bonus after last weekend's trials and tribulations!
Slowly But Shirley
First 8 miles were great! Had to 'dig deep' for the final 2 though!!!
Nic-Nocs
Good weather conditions around the course, until 8 miles - then lots of wind and rain!! Eurythmics playing 'Sweet Dreams' as I ran along the front - not my idea of sweet dreams!! Wet and cold after the event! Another 3hrs to get the 10 miles home!!
hillstrider
A well organised race, ruined by the chaos trying to drive off the Common. Three hours to get onto the road is no joke. A fee of £3 for professional car parkers was a rip off, as they did nothing to assist us leaving the Common.
Apart from this, I enjoyed the race, and like everyone else, battled against the elements in the final 2 miles. The music was inspiring, especially "I'm a fire starter."
PhilMathe
Was my first competitive race, and I found it really enjoyable...annoyed that I could have gone faster if I hadn't paced myself for a 90minute run...last 2 miles along the sea front were great!!
HandyBendyHendo
Lost my brother at 6ish. Damn!
Crossy81
Last mile into strong wind
Crazy Grazy
I was hoping for 1hr 17mins 30, but the crazy wind for the last 2 miles must have added at least an extra 2 mins to my overal time
aitchmac
weather atrocious, heavy rain and gale force wind, last 2 miles into what felt like force 8
lilmssquirrel
Found it hard from mile seven onwards, especially the last two miles along the sea front with high winds and horizontal rain.
gosbag
Heavy Cold! Again!!
martin K
damm weather second time i've done this and both times its been Raining
