I thought last year was windy. Hurricane Katrina in our faces for the last 4 miles. The cross wind for the first 3 was a bit of an eye-waterer. The tail wind was so strong between 3 and 6 that you felt you were getting blown off your feet and so you couldn't really take advantage properly. Still, got my PB. Little bit disappointed I didn't get under 1.40. But that's a 10 min improvement on last year's race in even windier conditions with a bit of a hangover. Got to be pleased. Met up with Tigger, Haggis and Phantom. Nice to see you guys.
Took it nice and easy till 10.5 when the wind really hit and I had to work a bit harder. Good prep for Dunfy Half in a weeks time
Really pleased with my (watch) time. Great race, fab scenery, hellish wind! At least the rain went off. Settled in to a sub-9 min/mile pace and felt ok, started to struggle with the wind about 10m or so when it was hitting us from the left. The last 2 miles were torture! My garmin said I was still doing sub 10m/m pace but it certainly didn't feel it! This marathon training malarky must be paying off - 3 minutes faster then last year, and a 10k PB last weekend. 2 races in 2 weeks and Tunnocks Caramel Wafers in both goody bags - these race organisers certainly know how to keep me happy :-D
Looking forward to this race. Using it as a training run for Stockholm Marathon so will probably not go for a PB. Well I would call this race character building, it was very, very windy and a few cooling showers which were bordering on hailstones. last 3 miles were straight into a very strong headwind which stopped you in your tracks a few times. Loch Leven and the surrounding countryside were very scenic,if you could see through the mist.
Driving gales that force every runner to crouch, lashing rain hitting you horizontally, an "undulating" route; at least it didn't actually snow. Fantastic views around the loch - you got great views of the force 10 gales sweeping the white horses across the loch. As for the race itself, the headwind from miles 10 to 12 cost me 50 seconds a mile and put paid to a 1h30 target time, but I was still happy with a PB time (yup, even in those conditions). It'd be nice to run this in sensible weather next year.
started the first 3 miles too slow and the wind well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
