About Me
I took up running in 2013. Apart from cross country at school in the 1980's, inever ran in my life before. I decided to do a 10k Charity run in memory of my dad who passed away of Cancer for Cancer Research. The great Scottish Run 10k 2013 was my first ever Race. It was a hard slog, and i crawled in on a time of 63:52. I knew i could do better than that time, i hadn't trained for it and decided to do training runs. So i trained myself for 6 months and entered lots of 10k races during 2014. I got fitter gradually, my times improved, and i entered the Great Scottish run 10k 2014 to see how much i could beat last years time by. I finished in 52:18. Not bad, but my best race of 2014 was the Irvine Marymass 10k where i finished 49:23. And a best training 10k of 48:15.

After running the Morrisons Great Winter Run 5k in January 2015, i had a collapsed lung. I had a spontaneous pneumothorax in 1996, meaning i had to have a chest drain and then a Talc procedure. This meant i couldn't exercise for many years. That's why it was a big deal for me to finish any 10k. Because i virtually had 1 lung. I had no ill effect from this operation all through my short running career from 2013. But in January 2015, a recurance of the collapsed lung happened meaning i couldn't run for months. Actually i tried to keep on running. But it was affecting mebadly. I had just ran 23:32 at Parkrun in Victoria Park Glasgow. My most recent runs are 25:17. I ran the SSAFA on the 18th April 2015, and got a time of 25:30. So, i feel like i'm very slowly recovering, but a collapsed lung takes a long time.

Fractured TIB-Fib June 2015, again meaning another long spell off from running. This time 6 months. Attended physio and am now gradually getting back.

First comeback race is the Jack Crawford 10k Springburn Cup on Sat 5th March.
